Default Heater Hose at Plastic Bulkhead Disconnect

Using the wonderful remote hose clamp removal tool recommended by several in other threads, I have managed to affix it to one of the heater hose clamps and move the clamp off the nipple.

However, the hose doesn't want to come off. Similar coolant hoses on the front come off quite easily. Why would the heater hoses be different?

The car now has 98,000 miles & this is the first time hoses have been removed. Since the hoses are going to be replaced, just cut them off? Because of the inaccesability, I fear that would,t necessrily be any easier.

Suggestions much appreciated.

Steve

Hi Steve,

oh yes, those ones a bi... you have to persevere, I remember that I was scared of braking something..

I tried to lever the hose off with a screwdriver, and had to pull really strong to pull it off.

Good luck!

Best regards,

Thomas

Thanks, Thomas.

Seems like a srewdriver with a 90 at the end with the flange just a bit more than the thickness of the hose might help.

The nipple seems longer than it needs to be,

As you found out the rubber vulcanizes or sticks to the metal. Many tools to help break the rubber loose. Here are a few I have.
About $40 for the set and I modify them as needed as it seems they are never set up for the angles your working at?

Default Thanks, Clubairth1

The 3 on the bottom will most likely be of help.As you know, where these attach is right up against the plastic bulkhead.

Yes that's the problem I always have. The next one is the dang rubber is so tight that when I finally get the hose off I have now poked a hole in the rubber and require a new hose!

So what I have dropped back to doing is if I plan on replacing the rubber hose I just don't fight it anymore and just cut the rubber hose off. Many times when it was all over it would have saved me time and money to just cut the hose and proceed on!

Thanks, Clubairth,

Exactly my thoughts! I see no reason to reuse them since, if they should be the next to go, I'm in this carfuffle all over again!

After cutting as close to the nipple as possible, I suspect a razor attached to an extension will scrape the hoses from the nipples?

I ordered the tools that you recommended. I may just try them on said hoses for practice because, I think, these won't be the only ones hard to remove.

Best,

Steve

I have found that a spray of CRC 5-56 or WD-40 into the hose end area, followed by twisting the hose back and forth encourages separation.
Those remote tools really make a difference in that area. Before I bought that tool, I broke some of the plastic Y-piece heater fittings because I couldn't remove those bulkhead fittings and overstressed the hoses.

Reverse action hose removal tool works great.
Resembles a set of pliers.
If there is enough room to use it.after removing the clamp.
Have had one for years, then later saw them at Harbor Freight.

I have a pair if they look like this?

But again access is the key and so far I have never been able to use that tool to remove a hose.
What I find hilarious is the example pictures they post with those pliers?

Now how many hoses have you EVER disconnected that everything was all out in the open with no restrictions to access the connection?

The twisting suggestion is a good one but again the rubber is so tight I can't get to move. Same with lubricate as unless there is some room for the lube to get between the rubber and the metal or plastic nipple it won't help at all. Same idea as rusted bolts? Unless you can crack or penetrate the rust no penetrate/lubricant can get to the threads.

Thank you so much, Clubairth!

I purchased the Orion Kit that includes toi tool you so kindly recommend & the remote removal tool as well.. I don't think there is room where the heater hoses enter the bulhead, but I will findout.

Thanks again & Happy Easter!

Motorcycles have many hoses connected to plastic, that break easily.
Do you have a heat gun to heat the hose, with gloves to protect your hands to twist?

Thanks, Wingrider! That sounds like a plan! I'll give it a shot when we're back from TX.

Those are some of my weapons of choice when attacking stuck hoses!
Watch that sharp point too. As I posted more than once I have broken the hose loose only to find I poked a hole in the rubber.

One step forward and two steps backwards sometimes.
Post back what worked for you.

Thanks, Clubairth!

I plan to replace all that I can. Now that I have all the plastic & intake manifold off, I get to remove the SC. Wish me luck.
