Default HELP!! 2003 Jaguar coolant problem!

so my 2003 Jaguar XJ sport/8 is leaking coolant from the bottom hose underneath the coolant resivor and it only leaks when the heater is on. Almost as if the heater is making pressure in the system and pushing coolant up through the top of that hose. Heater works perfect and the car does not overheat at all or stay to cool. Thanks

After the vehicle cools down, preferably overnight, pressurise the cooling system to one bar and look for leaks. The expansion tanks are made from plastic and can only withstand a finite number of cold to hot to cold cycles before failing.

Most likely the tank has a crack that opens when the system in under pressure.

so why would it only do it while the heater is on? It’s weird I can have the coolant cap off and run the car and the level will be fine but as soon as I turn the heater on it wants to overflow everywhere!!

Use a wireless Bluetooth scanner and Torque app with a smartphone to monitor coolant temperature. DO NOT rely on the instrument cluster gauge to accurately tell you if the engine is overheating. The gauge may not indicate a rise in temperature between 86 C and 129 C.

If there was recent work to the engine that involved draining and refilling the cooling system, it may have some air trapped. Bleed the system using the procedure outlined in the Workshop Manual, or use the search function on this forum to find other threads discussing the issue.
