Help with fuel rail leaking???
2008 n/a 4.2 XJ8.
I'm chasing one gremlin after another. Can anyone tell me what this vent? looking thing is on my fuel rail, or fuel injection supply manifold if you prefer?
It's on the right side rail (left if you're under the hood facing the radiator looking in at the engine) between the 2nd and 3rd injector, it's round and metal and looks like it is manufactured as part of the rail with no obvious way to remove it, it points down the same way the injector ports do, and it's leaking fuel. That can't be good. Right?
First, can you tell me what it is so that I don't sound like an idiot. Second, I assume it is NOT supposed to drip fuel all over the top of engine, but if I'm wrong, please let me know. Third, and idea why it's leaking? Fourth, can it be repaired, or do I have to replace the entire manifold? (I haven't looked yet, but I'll bet you can't just buy one rail.)
THANK YOU for any info as I'm feeling rather stupid right now.
- EDIT -
Ah! So it appears it may be a "fuel rail pulsation damper" or some other such nonsense. With a new name, I have found a thread or two (mostly for other models, but similar) that say dealer only... expensive if you can find them... just replace the whole fuel supply manifold... etc. I also saw some mentions of sending the whole manifold to an injection specialist to just have it capped off.
So, any pros or cons to doing so?
Also, can they just be changed? It is almost definitely a common Ford part that could surely be replaced cheaply IF it can be replaced at all, and IF one could find the correct part interchange numbers. Thoughts?
