Default Here's another little trick !

Getting ready for holidays (in Germany) today, and left door of car open then went back into the house to find something or other. Went back to the car to put something in the glove box and it wouldn't open. So I closed the door, locked and unlocked the car, then opened the door again, and Lo, the glove box would now open !

Clearly somebody at Jaguar thought about forgetful people like me who leave their car open and with valuables in the glove box. Actually we live in a good area, so no bother, but it just shows you the complexity of this car.

This could be more by accident than design.

If Jaguar really thought about forgetful people they'd have put the same guy on developing the opposite feature of stopping the boot lid from locking with the keys inside........

i found out not long ago, if you have the doors locked with the car off the glove box wont open. it took me a minute or two to figure out why. not sure if I'm the only one that didnt know this.

I love these kinds of threads - I'm still constantly finding new things that my xj8 does.

Default Complexity

I just wish could find a realistic locksmith with a computer to get me an extra key (fob complete) without paying $400 !!!

There's one in Portland Oregon but that's 1500 miles away.

These days the people who cut keys in shopping malls can program them as well.

Default How to Program Key and FOB for an XJ8(98-04 models)

Hi,

I am a little late in this blog, but I came across these instructions on E-How and they are identical to instructions I came across in a Jaguar TSB. I could not find the TSB again. This is the exact procedure that Jaguar charges you $400 to program the key and key fob and this will only take you about a minute per key and fob.
Instructions
I hope this helps someone. It worked for me like a charm.

My car is loaded with all the options and even if I lived to a 100, I don't think I will ever learn how to use them all. That covers just the itmes that are right there in your face. So forget about all the hidden features like this.
