Default Hood struts 2005 XJ8-L

Has anyone replaced theirs with an after market set? I really don't want to splash out ~$200 for oem replacements. Right now I carry an old 8 iron in the trunk to prop the hood open and it kind of detracts from the overall aura of the car!!!

Cheers, Mark.

I replaced my boot (trunk) lid struts with after-market items at very little cost. They don't look quite so nice but work well enough. You can find OEM on E-bay at less than Jaguar prices too. Mine were about £15 each (or $24).

I have replaced the trunk struts already with after market (URO) replacements, however they don't do replacements for the hood.

Here's a UK supplier with them at £41 each. They ship internationally. Cheaper than Jaguar OEM, but of course there will be shipping charges and so on, but I would think even then the price should still be much lower.

I replaced one trunk strut. There are numbers on them but i could not match them up with anything. I did not want to spend good money after bad so I bit the bullet and spent $107 for the correct one.

I was concerned about the trunk having too much lift or not enough. Its perfect once again.

I was looking for a couple of hood struts for my 2005 Jag XJ8L at this previously mentioned site (STRUT-BONNET), but I couldn't locate any.

I use SNG Barrett, if they don't have it they order it for me.

That's a great deal.
A couple years ago, I had to replace 1 trunk strut for $107. (X350)
Since then they have come down in price.
I suppose the hood struts are more popular and this is why they were less.

You can always use a pair of these:

Lisle 44870 Gold Lift Support Clamp Lisle 44870 Gold Lift Support Clamp

Got me a pair from amazon and use them when I work in under the hood. Utter perfection!

Thanks for the replies guys! For now, I'll try Frank M's suggestion as per SNG Barett. Thanks again!
