I got blasted!!
I have two friends that are performance mechanics, one specializes in Mustangs (well know in the racing circuit) and the other Honda's. I guess I was supposed to get their approval before buying a Jaguar. The Mustang friend wouldn't even come outside to look at the car when I got it and my Honda friend was impressed by the car even though he advised me not to buy it. They both said the parts are too expensive to maintain and not to trust a vehicle that was sold to Ford then to Tata. I love the car and don't plan on them doing service on it which they have done in the past with my cars, this may be why they resent it? I researched the car before I bought it and found that I can get great prices on parts and I found two shops that specialize in Jaguar at half the hourly rate (x jag mechanics). I bought the car with a two year warranty (not Jaguar's) which extends to four if I don't use it or a $125 for renewal if I do. Did I do so wrong ?

I dislike stereotypes . Not only Jag but also Land Rover also brought by Tata . Let's not forget world's one of the prestigious brands is also owned by people car the manufacturer of beetles .... I mean Bentley taken over by VW
Did you buy it for them, or did you buy it cause you love the car? Just like everyone else on this forum you own a Jaguar because it does something that the mustang and the honda doesn't do right now. I say rght now cause who knows what kind of cars they might produce. Certain cars just do it! right now for me it's my 2004 STR- 1985 M6 and a Audi A3 sline. Enjoy and be happy.
Give my regards to both and tell them that you wouldn't trust a company who files a chapter 11 every five years (and owned Jaguar an Land Rover after BMW and before TATA) and a company who produces cars specialised in motorcycles. That is just to intimidate them back. Probabably they both knew they are loosing a client and they can't afford a Jag diagnosis hardware or software.
Dear Paul, from now on you are gonna be seen with Pamela Anderson instead of the Golden Girls .... and that comes at a price .... believe me it is worth it.

If they really knew about cars they'd congratulate you on making a smart buy. As used cars go it's virtually impossible to get more car for less money than a Jag.
And you should thank them. They keep the Jaguar stereotype alive...and that's why the prices are so low :-).
If they give you any more razz-matazz about buying it, just keep smiling. It'll drive 'em nuts :-)
Cheers

The more and more I think about it I believe it's them not knowing the car, it's out of their comfort zone. I plan on doing the minor repairs/service myself (with your help of course
).

The only issue of concern on your car is theair suspension. Otherwise you propbobly paid less for your jag than they did for their mustang and hondas. Not to mention when your waiting on the curb for valet to bring your car, would you rather have a jaguar pull up, or a mustang or honda

Even though I obviously make my own decisions, these guys are great friends. Both worked on my cars in the past and I had to fight with them to take any money. When I wrote off my Mustang my friend stripped the car, every time I visit him he hands me cash for parts he has sold. I think their concern was that I bought a car that they don't know how to repair so I'm going to fork out the bucks to an unknown shop. How much influence did Ford have on the design ? Are the brakes/bearings pretty much the same?
the air suspension seal in the air spring leak, especially when it gets aliitle cold and you run into the "shrinkage factor" followed with road grit into the tops. Its more a problem in a cold climate like Canada, otherwise youll be fine. oh wait youre in Canada, crap buy you Mustang back
Im just kidding, what I meen is the only issue with reliabilty in this car is the air suspension, front air springs, and air compressor. Theyre avail used and remanned though so I wouldnt worry, especially with the help her and your friends with tools. Im an old Chevy, Ford, Nissan, guy and I wouldnt worry about the car, unless you want to mod. There is nothing for performance out there compared to the domestics. But that just meens youll spend less and wont spend weekends repairing or modding it, thats good or bad depending on what you like to do with your freetime

I will deal with it as it comes, I always do. I have had a weird problem lately that would put a jag mechanic in aw. When I leave work and put my right signal on as I leave the lot, the right turn signal flashes fast and I get a warning that the rear right signal has a problem. It only does it when I leave work and at no other time. It's fine after that turn and never does it when leaving from home or anywhere else
Just tell Honda boy that his Civic 's history includes being made from recycled tin cans. Front drive rice a rony cars don't deserve the attention of a quality admiring Jag loving type as yourself. Welcome to the sophisticated side of life. Promise me you'll never drink swill or drivel in your Jag! Also definitely no cigs, fine cigars only!

Mustang and Honda... you can't be serious. Every Honda, even the expensive ones have a hard ride and are really uncomfortable. The controls are not easially accessible, and the view, well, just not great. Excellent for the person who needs a utility vehicle that is not a truck, otherwise, no way!
Mustangs? The only car Ford makes (excluding the high end Lincolns) are the trucks. Every Mustang I have been in (even the 72 convertible I had as a kid) rattles after about 10k. Sure, cheap to fix, but really, a Shelby for that price, with the same tacky interior as the cheaper models (and the rattles??)
As for the Jag, I have a 2006 XJL, my 6th Jag since 1990. Never had major problems, always ride excellent, few if any rattles, all quickly fixable...the best cars I have ever owned, including Mercedes and BMW. So, to your friends that won't look, leave them to their uncomfortable rattle traps. Enjoy your ride, it won't be the last Jag you buy!

Just stumbled in here !!!
Long ago, I learned that "noise ain't power". So, some lacking power just make noise!!
An old Hot Rod adage, "if it won't go, chrome it".
Decades ago, I had just bought my XJ6. I stopped by to visit my son at his auto machine shop. His pal, a building inspector was there with his emblazoned county car.
My son moaned, "my reputation is ruined".
