Default Jaguar 2004, A/C

I need help with my A/C problem.

I have had it in the shop 2 times paid money. It's still doing the same thing - blowing hot air.

Any suggestions?

Was it working when you got it back from the shop? Did they tell you what they did?

It work for about a 5 minutes , as we exit off the freeway. Then the a/c starting blowing hot air. We had him to change I guess it was the radiator because anti-freeze was leaking. We change the compress on the a/c about 6 months ago. When we brought it back I think he told my husband something was not connected, but its doing the same thing and this will be the 3 times over there again.

Sounds like they could have just re-gassed it without doing a UV check for leaks.

Take it back and find out exactly what the mechanic did and is planning to do. If he just wants to add some refrigerant and send you on your way, find somebody willing to properly diagnose it. Any time your system is low on refrigerant, there is a leak somewhere.

Ok, so you took the car to the shop because of a coolant leak, and when the job was done the coolant no longer leaked, but there was no air conditioning. Is that a correct description of your problem ?

If it is and the leak was in the radiator, the air con condenser, (another radiator), is in front of the radiator, and would probably have to be removed or disturbed to replace the radiator. With a 2004 car it is possible the condenser was corroded and disturbing it has caused it to leak. If so, all the refrigerant will have leaked away, so you have no cooling.

Almost all climate control systems like the one in your Jaguar have the heater constantly hot summer and winter, there being no shut-off valve. The interior temperature of the car is controlled by the climate control unit blending hot and cold air as determined by the control unit. So with no cold air to blend with the hot, you just get hot air !

Take it to an A/C specialist

A/C systems are not the complex system the industry likes to make out they are.
The only difference between your system and most cars is the compressor

Most compressors have clutch which is operated by a few simple switches in the A/C lines. All these do is start/stop the compressor from pumping.

In the XJ you have a clutchless compressor. This will fool a lot of mechanics who wont know how to deal with diagnosing or gassing the system.

This is why I say take it to an A/C Specialist

The way the compressor is controlled in the XJ is via the ECU. The ECU pulses the compressor on between 0 and 100% the rate depends on how much the compressor needs to pump. The ECU takes data from the climate control module (RCCM) which monitors the refrigerant lines, cabin temp and discharge temps. This data is used by the ECU to work out how much the compressor needs to pump.

It would be a good idea prior to going to a specialist to source a new "Desiccant Bag" as anybody worth paying to work on your A/C would not do so without replacing this. This is the equivalent of your oil filter. Gassing without changing the bag is like doing an oil change without the filter

If you need any more info please ask.

Cheers
