Default Just bought a 2006 XJL Super 8 Portfollio...

I just bought a one owner 2006 XJL Super 8 Portfolio with 46,000 miles on it, in which, I hope it's as reliable as my 1998 XK8 has been ( primary and secondary tensioner and guides recently replaced :-) ). I did buy this through eBay (I was the highest bidder); I never bought a car this way and now I have to ship it approx. 1,000 miles. Does anybody have any experience with shipping a car and can offer a company that's good. I been reading up on this and it seems, it's basically hit or miss. <grin> This car is being shipped from Greenville, Kentucky to Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

The other thing is, I didn't have the car inspected, because I just joined eBay and started looking at Jaguars for sale last night and boom, seen this XJL at the 30 minute count-down stage of the bid. I did contact the seller and asked about the car, looked at the carfax and many pictures, in which, everything looks good and seller said car ride just like it was new. He is a dealer and he was been driving it himself for about 200 miles. Hope I'm not in for a big surprise, but I know this forum will be my best friend if I need help!!! :-)

I do not have experience shipping, but Reliable out of Canton, MI has a good following. Looks like a beautiful car. I am seriously looking at a 2009 XJ in a Cashmere color that I have not ever seen. Good luck,

If you purchased down in the southeast I have a shipper out of GA.

Great company.

Had my 2004 XJR to me within 24 hours of pick up. Confirmed pick up within 3 days of placing my order. 4pm pick up on a Monday and at my door at 8:30am on Tuesday for a great price!

Congrats on your purchase by the way.

This car is being shipped from Greenville, Kentucky to Cape Cod, Massachusetts. In researching this car I found out that there were only about 125 built and sold in North America! I hope that is a good thing and not that, I will have trouble finding parts for some repairs. <grin>

Portfolio is just a trim level the rest of the car is the same just don't get the side vents stolen as they are very expensive to buy I think they are £8500 for the pair in the uk but they are a fantastic car I've had mine three years now love every minute of driving it

Clifton, Ever since I was a teen, I thought the XJ was the sexiest car on the road, but in 2010, something went wrong...The newer XJ's just don't it for me anymore! LOL I'm really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of this XJ. I just watched a video on how to work the entertainment system in the backseat - I could use this car for limousine service, for extra money...

Feel the same way. Lived in UK until I was 23 or so and have owned several older Jags and thoroughly enjoy driving mine.

I will keep an eye out for you on Cape Cod as I make frequent trips up there and hope to be living there next year.

Locally here I saw 3 different model Jags at Walmart not including mine. Most I have seen at one time here.

Jackra_1, Yes, Not many Jaguars on the Cape and the neatest Jaguar dealer is about two hours away. I just had a local independent shop work on my 1998 XK8, replacing the primary and secondary tensioners and guides, and I had to finish the job myself; because he didn't replace the timing chain and secondary tensioners. Although he told me he did the whole kit and I paid him, he lied. The good thing was, he took pictures of what he did to show me how intense the job was to justify the price he charged me, thus, exposing the original plastic secondary tenioners that he didn't change out. So I bought some tools and did the job myself. Which leads me to the next question - Do you know a good shop around the Cape that works on Jaguars?

By the way, I love what you did to ur XJL! I was in Harwich last week and stopped for coffee, parking right next to a 2009 XJL, in which, the owner said he loved my XK8, I told him I loved his XJL...The next day I bought one (2006)!!! :-) I also own a neat old 2000 Mercedes that basically is in the same class as the XJL; Can't wait to compare the difference in the ride between the Mercedes and the Jaguar.

Yes. Most likely I will see you driving around, because basically, there is no other cars like ours here on Cape Cod!!! :-)

Unfortunately I do not know of any independent Jaguar mechanics on the Cape.

So far I have done all work on my XJR myself. I also have the JLR SDD software for diagnosing any issues and it was especially useful in adjusting the ride height.

This forum has been extremely helpful to say the least.

Sometime in the future I will certainly need someone else to do more complicated work as I am not getting any younger!

My XJR is not a daily driver so I can take my time with any work. However once I am living on the Cape I plan on driving a lot more.. so many places to see unlike here in MD, in my opinion.

Jackra_1, Where can I get this JLR SDD software - I didn't know I could adjust the ride height! :-) I will let you know when I find a good independent shop that works on Jags... Cape Cod is so beautiful in the spring, summer and fall months, but in the winter...<grin>

Have a look at the above thread. There are other threads if you search.

I bought my software from British Diagnostics on Ebay as well as a used Laptop for $50 running Windows 7.

some people have had bad luck in trying to reprogram the ECU and ended up with a "bricked" ECU.

I would not attempt to reprogram anything unless it was "broken" to begin with. I do have a special battery support device so that the car's battery will not die while doing anything.

When I replaced all my rear bushings and lowered the car after having it jacked up for several days the rear was way to high.

I used the ride height section of JLR SDD to set the height back where it should be.

I do have a genuine Pro Mongoose cable.

The price sounds too good for a well maintained 06 Portfollio.

I have an 06 SV8 I bought with 33K miles. It came from Jag Dealer with new tires, rotors and pads. After my test drive they replaced 2 front out of round factory rim just like yours. I paid extra for a bumper to bumper 5 Yr/ 60K mi extended warranty at purchase.

At about 40K miles all suspension bushings were replaced at a cost of about $5K. Good thing I had the warranty.

in addition, I had a vacuum leak at the throttle body. It was replaced along with that expensive rubber house below the supercharger. Another couple of grand.

You need an extended warranty on these cars for peace of mind. Repairs/maintenance are expensive and drop the resale valve of these 100K+ luxury cars rapidly.

I really enjoy my SV8. I maintain it extremely well. They are gourous cars with the rare Jaguar heritage, unlike the newer model years.

Good luck. You have a rare car.

Hard to believe these cars can be had for such a low price. They were new $115K.
Stand corrected.

Agreed. I had the Super V8 and @ 10 years old, price just went off a cliff. I still sold it for far above book due to unique color combo and dumb luck on the timing between buyer and seller, but have since moved to the X150. They hold their value better, but an entirely different animal.

I loved my SV8 but love the XK more.

I just found a 2006 Jaguar XJ-Series Super V8 Portfolio for $34,900 on Car Gurus, with about 40,000 miles on it

https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invent...ting=153100585

Because there were only about 120 of these cars made for North American, pricing these cars maybe some what unpredictable. But I will let you all know how I made out when I receive the car.
