Ahhh, those wonderful old 80s Mercedes tanks. Those indeed were effortless and smooth. I think he was referring to more modern German cars, which tend to go for the sporty type ride these days.

well its been a few months now since I bought this beautiful machine.. 2004 XJ8.. it has been trouble free.. drive it daily in the extreme heat of LA..even took her thru the desert to Las Vegas when the temp was over 110!! She never over heated.and everything works smooth as silk...I love this car so much.. the smooth fast power.. the soft firm ride.. the elegance.. its definitely the best last years of the great design of this car...people look at me like i am driving a brand new car.. she is still stunning inside and out.. anyone thinking of buy one from 2004 to 2009 DO IT....amazing buy of an amazing car

 

still love this car better then any other ive had.. and i have had them all from Porsches, Mercedes, BMW, Audi..
thes last years of the classic jag are amazing.. comfort, speed and great design.. i adore it

 

Very cool. I was just in West Hollywood last night for dinner at Trois Mec. My XJ8L rolled along luxuriously like a cloud (but never floaty). Nothing beats air suspension in smoothness and comfort. Maybe it feels extra smooth cos it's a long-wheelbase? I test drove a X351 and that newer car felt rougher, firmer and a tad sportier.

Haven't tested the S-Class yet, but I think the Lexus LS came closest, maybe even more smooth!
