Default let me go find a Prius to **** on

i drove from Houston Texas to Chicago Illinois just a few miles over over a thousand and i managed to get here with just two tanks! driving between 70-90 mph for most of my trip. though my gas range only shown i had 2 miles left when reaching the hotel, for a supercharged V8 i was quite impressed. i didnt have to sacrifice looks comfort or speed. i would of expected at least 3 full tanks to get me here.

I had to drive one in the past, for less than a day. I averaged 25mpg - which is terrible as the number doesn't correspond with the promoted average mpg.

in many cases its not really what you drive its how you drive it. when driving a Prius at high speeds its not the gas saver thats advertised

I drove my 05 XJ8 form Dallas to Virginia Beach during the winter, all Interstate driving with the cruise on 75. The average varied but the best tank was 34.9 MPG! The worst was 31.4. This was in 2008 when it was only 3 yeas old. I still have it and it averages 26.8 around town. It is the most economical car I have and I use it for trips. The Audi A6 is terrible, averaging around 18.5. The Jeep gets 16, the XKR averages about 22.5.

A Prius, or any hybrid, is only going to give an advantage when it's used in the city or urban setting; anywhere where there's a lot of stop-start or varying speed. In the motorway (interstate) environment where you're cruising at a constant and reasonably high speed the engine will be running all the time so you have a car driven 100% by an internal combustion engine ... er, I think that's what Daimler & Benz came up with about 100+ years ago.

Clarkson pointed out (on TG elsewhen) that he got no better mpg out of a hybrid than out of a conventional car going from his home (Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire) to the TG studio (London) - that's about 25 miles down the A44 and A40 (main roads) then 30 miles down the M40 (motorway); then finally (at long last, Prius country !) some hacking through London traffic.
