Default Lumpy / Bumpy cold start idle

Good day Gentlemen,

Any idea on this?

Happens when the car sits overnight and I start in the morning, no smoke etc. Sometimes happens also when leaving grocery store after it's been warmed up not often here though.

Issue disappears after 10-15 seconds.

No codes, car has new fuel filter, oem spark plugs (did this before and after). Car has 131k

Did some reading on this - may be the MAF. There is a IAT sensor within our Maf's if I'm not mistaken?

If I swap for an oem maf do I really need to pay the dealer fee for a re-calibration of maf reading values?

Also read it could be the coil packs - replace these all?

Suggestions?

Thanks!

I replaced my MAF recently and while the car did idle terribly for a few minutes on restarting, it soon sorted itself out and no reclibration was required.

May be worth getting the codes read with a system that can read all of the Jaguar extended code set, otherwise you're just going to end up throwing parts at the problem until you get lucky. Does giving it a blip of throttle settle it down?

I'll try the throttle blip.

Yea really trying to avoid a dealer or specialty shop trip - ha ha. They throw parts too at things it seems :/

My wife has a 06 range rover, the maf's are the same we just replaced hers from an indy shop (british specific) after I got tired of throwing ideas at it (pcv valve vacuum leak hunting etc) that kind of fixed the issue (it passed and check engine light is on less), she was getting a p0171 with it, but the code came back with the new maf - so pretty sure old one is still good, I still have that old maf from hers I could try.

Thanks for the help!

My 2003 4.2 occasionally has a bit of a lumpy idle, a quick rev always settles it down. Not uncommon on ageing cars, first thing I do with any issue is give it a rev to see if it sorts itself out

Gas brand affects it too. If changing brands doesn't solve it Most likely you have some water collected in the tank. It is collecting in the fuel lines over night. Try a complete draining and drying of the tank an change the fuel filters at the same time.

That's ultimately the best thing you can do with any Jaguar, is sell it. Get out while you can
