Default Mechatronic Sleeve Tip!

I had a real difficult time installing the mechatronic sleeve on the HP 26. Watching videos, reading here, etc. I was still at my Wit's end + not getting it to go in properly. Here's what I did. Hopefully it will help others. Use your smartphone and take photos of the alignment. Indexing slot... I use two times zoom, and once I got a good shot I would keep turning ithe sleeve until I got it to align. Take one final shot and turn the brightness of the photo all the way up to

check your positioning and then knock her in!

The sleeve is installed from inside the transmission? Did you replace it? What your showing is the external plug? The sleeve does take some effort to lock into place.
Here is the leaking sleeve that should be changed on EVERY ZF 6 speed transmission. Cheap to do but the pan has to be dropped for access so best to plan on doing it with a fluid and filter change. They are under $20.

If I am not mistaken....The old/original sleeves used a red-orange o-ring that eventually is doomed to fail, while the new version now has a black o-ring pair.

Good point as I have seen that too. Not sure if it was 100% but the few I have replaced did have the red O-rings.

1. There are two sleeves simingly same but they are not interchangable. They are used in different ZF transmissions. Keys are different. In my case I went to experts, https://www.erikssonindustries.com/ , to confirm that part numbers I am buying will fit my gearbox. If, by any chance, you got wrong sleeve, you may be will be able to replace just O-Ring and use old plastic body.
2. When I was doing mine, even I was doing it on car lift, I could not develop sufficient force to get sleeve seated with my left hand; right hand was pulling clip...
I took short wooden stick about 18-24" long fit it so far end backed against coupling on output of transmission; middle section against the sleeve and pushed it with my left hand. That was enough persuasion to get it seated!
WARNING: make sure sleeve is properly aligned; otherwise you're risking to breack sleve! I also generously lubed the seal with ZF lifegard fluid. DON'T FORGET to pull latching tip down when you will be pushing sleave in!
