Has anyone else experienced terrible sound produced by the in-car microphone?

A callers voice is very clear but they report that I sound as if I'm in a tunnel with poor clarity and lots of background sound. I'm thinking about replacing the microphone but if everyone else has the same issue, there's no sense in doing so.

I've looked for a replacement microphone other than the factory mic but can't be sure it would work at all.

Any ideas or suggestions?

 

Jaguar issued a TSB about 15 years ago about voice quality.

You might want to read ALL the TSBs for your car??

That particular TSB seems to apply to the 2005 model year - mine is a 2006. I do recall having assess to TSB's previously but do not remember anything regarding voice quality issues.

This is not a new issue for my car - but now that we have passed a no holding your phone law here, I thought I would go back and visit the microphone issue again.
