Default Mist on the windscreen, cant drive without wipers! How to fix it?

Hi guys,
My xj6 windscreen builds up too much mist every time I use airconditioning. At night it is impossible to drive without using the wipers. Spoke to the agent and they said its common and nothing they can do about it. They suggested me to use wipers!!
Is it a common thing? What can I do to fix it.
Thanks

Nope. I don't have any problems. Is your A/C on "Auto" ?? Is your re-circ button stuck on ?? (You can force it to stay on by pressing and holding it)

AFAIK, the system monitors the delta between inside and outside temp and changes things to try and prevent moisture build up.

Looking at where you're living, it appears that by having the aircon on full, thus cooling the inside of the car, you are overcooling the windscreen so the very high humidity in Sri Lanka causes moisture to condense on the outside of the cold windscreen. I have seen it here on my daughter's Fiat 500, but never on my Jaguar. The Fiat 500 just has a cooler, not climate control, so can overcool the windscreen. The Jaguar climate control shouldn't do this, so check your settings. What temperature setting are you on ?

All good points already stated.

The obvious - ensure your windows are clean and no moisture / damp carpets etc etc.

No it's not on auto mode. And re circulation button is on too.... And I don't use it fully on. But normal selected temp is 17 Celsius. Lowest I can get cos we have 12 months summer in Sri Lanka I don't want to use wipers when it's not raining just because the agent doesn't know what to do.
What am I doing wrong? Anything I can do to fix this?

I would say you have your temperature set too low. As Fraser said, the windscreen is being cooled to the point where moisture condenses on the outside of it.

I keep my air-con on auto and on 21-21.5 all year round. In Winter it puts out heat or luke warm air and in the summer cool air. That is a comfortable temperature regardless of what the temperature is outside. You may need to put it on recirculate to bring the temperature down quickly and keep it down but 17 sounds low.

Thanks
So I will try Auto mode and 21 Celsius and see? Re circulation on or off?

I have done almost all the repairs on my jag but still the air compressor to be replaced. I'm not going to buy it from here. It's going to cost me $1700 from the agent. I'm planning to buy it from UK n get it down. I think arnotte industries n justjags has it for like $600. Sounds like a fair deal to me.

So far for the repairs n parts it has cost me around $5500. Now only I'm getting to drive this after buying it in June. Still I love my car

Set it to 21 and leave it on auto. The system will work out what to do with the re-circ itself..... You will notice it puts the re-circ on and off on its own accord........ It is a pretty advanced system so let it do all the thinking for you !

The simple fact is that if the windshield is cooled to a temp below the dew point of the outside air, the moisture in said air will condense. It is the principle that causes wet grass in the AM.

Hi Sonic

Yes, just let the system decide what it needs to do to maintain the temperature you select on the dash console with the system on Auto.

You can drive one of these cars from Alaska in WInter, to Tierra del Fuego at the south of South America in Winter, thus taking your car from snow and ice and -35C, to the tropics and 45-50C and then back again to snow and ice, and it will maintain a constant temperature in the cabin. Its not rocket science, most of the other up-market cars like Lexus, Merc, BMW etc etc will do the same. Jaguars also have to handle +50C in Arabia too !!

I tried using auto and it's much better now. Sometimes I get the mist but not bad as before, very little.... Still it's annoying but don't think I have anything to do.

Default Windscreen condensation

I get this nuisance condensation here in NE Florida USA too... it's pretty humid and hot here... so the AC is always on... even in the evenings... and that's when the buildup occurs...and when I use the wipers, it seems to make matters worse... I'm getting new blades this week... I heard there is some formula one can wipe on the windshield and the condensation will cease... I'll check this out at the local "Auto Zone"... funny thing... it's only happening on the drivers side...

Cheers,

Do you have a heated front screen? If so, turn it on.

SteveInFrance:
No heated windscreen... perhaps new blades will help quite a bit... Summer is the rainy season here, so I've probably worn them to the point of inefficiency… I can’t remember when I last replaced them… so no doubt it’s time…
Cheers,

if you used to use "auto" the system will flow through all vents including the windshield vents which will severely cool the windshield for condensation,,
make sure you set the system to flow through front or bottom vents only,,
