Default My Leaper lept!

While brushing the snow (don't ask! ) off Mr. J. this morning, the Leaper came off in my hand. Lucky I didn't lose it underway, I guess. This is all I seem to have; what am I missing/looking for in the spring mount portion? Any re-attachment strategy to suggest from here?

The missing bits may be inside the bonnet, on the engine or on the undertray.

The attaching spring probably rusted away. You'll have an easier time replacing.

Go with OEM. Aftermarket leaders just dont fit right.

About a month ago I was standing in front of my car, when my Leaper just dropped on it's own right in front of me. I found as many have that the wire from the leaper to the spring had corroded thu. Replace the wire from a stainless bicycle brake cable. this won't stretch or corrode as fast. I used double sweges to hold strong.

Thanks, Guys; I located the spring assy. down in front of the rad. The cable had rusted through. I used a couple of loops of stainless steel picture-hanging wire to cobble it all together again, and gave the whole mess a good shot of Crown rust inhibitor. I'll keep an eye on it now.

This is scary. Twice , my leaper was twisted backwards by the local carwash machine. Not a problem unless that wire lets go...just imagining the damage it could do

My attaching cable had rusted, strand by strand, right where it passes thru the mounting hole in the base of the leaper. If you can deflect yours off to the side enough to see that hole, that seems to be the weak/trouble spot.
