Default Leaper or no leaper?

Hi!

A controverse topic: does the XJ-S/XJS deserve a leaper on the hood/bonnet? Designed without, with the flush lines and therefore no leaper or is it like a sedan/saloon and needs a leaper?

Finally: the Leaper Poll!

Take your pick and we'll see the outcome!

The leaper looks fine on the 4 door sedans but I think it looks out of place on the XJ-S.

On the other hand, the original growler badge is not very special. Something that is enameled with some color would look more interesting.

My gentlemanly demeanor and forum rules dictate that I should use a bit of diplomacy, so here's my sugar-coated opinion:

I would've liked a third choice of "No. Absolutely never. Not under any circumstances."

The leapers are barely tolerable on sedans and are nothing short of grotesque on an XJS.

Not that anyone should care what I think, of course.

Carry on, carry on

Cheers

leapers are for XJ's

They look dumb on the low, thin hood of the XJS just like they look dumb on the E-type

I voted nyet.
Looks like it's 100% no at this point.

I like the leaper on my '98 VDP, and I'm sure I'll have one on my '63 Mk X if I ever get it done. Fine for the sedans, but out of place on the sportier cars, IMO.

The XK8 badge that Vee linked to above is a nice piece.

Yes and that is what this thread/poll is about... All owners are answering here. It isn't a public poll to ban/force people to have a leaper

So go ahead and place your choice! What do YOU think? YOU have an XJ-S/XJS. Would YOU fit a leaper? Or do YOU already have one?

In that other million page thread, people say "50:50". But going by the results so far, it looks like a lot different!

lol

I'm undecided

my car originally had a leaper and a growler and a full length bonnet strip in chrome, from new from Jaguar....

i have removed the leaper and the chrome strip and only maintained a growler for now

but think i may build up a ' swap out ' bonnet with a leaper and the chrome strip and louvers...

Not sure about not banning. I say no way, no how, and if you violate said rule, you can ONLY fit a small leaper, not the suitcase handle version from a Mark VIII et al.. HA!

Cheers,

Jeff

I really dont care what others do with their cars. They can paint their car pink if they want to.
I love the Leaper and find the growler boring. So on my car theirs a Leaper.
Do what you wish with yours

That's a tricky one have never seen a leaper on an xjs before!
Now seeing the two pics above I'd say both pics have the leaper in a crap position!
If it's going to be there it needs to be as far forward as possable !
I read years back that jaguar tried to get the leaper fitted on the xjs and xj40
But we're turned down under pedestrian impact laws , so manny left the factory without
And a short wile later the smaller spring loaded leaper was passed for complyance
But only offered as a dealer option !
My s type r had none and I personally can't stand the look of s types with out it
So I fitted one, it's now about the most sreemline part of the car , and it is a thing of beauty
. I think yes I'd fit one and be proud of it if it was so far forward it over hung the grill/bumper!

While I hate the 'Leaper' with a White Hot Passion, my Grey Car blends with the Color of the pavement so well, that it does make an excellent aiming mark, when travelling down the road.

Which is why I feel the P.O. may have had it fitted where it is.

It certainly is the owners choice. Of course, anybody who chooses something different than me, is just wrong!

Thats exactly what I had in mind. If they made one that said 5.3 Liter or V12 I would be happy to put it on my car.
