Default Navigation Setup

I know nothing about this navigations system, like if I get it to work, is it usable? I use my iPhone for GPS in this car currently, but would like to use the cars GPS. First off, I tried to put the Navigration System DVD into the Navigration DVD Reader and it will only go halfway in. I pressed the eject button to see if anything is in there, but nothing comes out. What do I need to do? Everything else works on the touch screen, except no Navigration System. Something in the Nav. System DVD Reader is moving when I try and put the DVD disk in...

If you go to Topix you can download the nav user manual; https://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com/topi...cle/lookupForm

From memory I think the manual tells you how to put the nav system into diagnostic mode, which will hopefully give some idea on why it's not working. Not being able to put the disk in suggests a mechanical/electrical problem with the unit, have you checked the fuses for it?

I found that the Nav. DVD Player already had a 2009-2010 MAP DVD inside it and the eject button doesn’t work. I took the DVD Player out, took it apart, removed the DVD, cleaned the player and put it back in car. I put the 2009-2010 DVD back in the player and the car touch display just says it’s reading the DVD for over a half hour. I tried putting the 2005 MAP DVD in and it does the same thing. So I’m guessing I need a new DVD Player.

My next questions is - Where do I find the most updated MAP DVD? I went to this link and
I select XJ/2006 and it says it couldn’t find that product?

http://jaguar.navigation.com/en_US/J...YB4g&gclsrc=ds

Is it worth buying a new or used, say through ebay, Nav. DVD Player, if I can ‘t find an updated MAP DVD to the year 2015-20016??? Are there updated MAP DVD’s for sale???

Be aware that there are places you should not go.

Yeah, I went into diagnostic mood and the S/W UpDate section displayed:

SYSTEM SOFTWARE VER. 9.03 07/10/16

But I didn’t press anything to start the new update. But the GPS stuff seems to be working. Thanks for the heads up!!! :-) Just need a new Nav. DVD Player and the most recent updated DVD, if it don’t cost me an arm and a leg.

On the XK forum, guys are using the Volvo DVD's. They say they work and they're current, but they're 2 DVD sets. I don't recall if they're the same system as the X350. You'd have to ask a tech online here or look up the part numbers for the DVD player of each model. If they are, you can get current from Volvo.

Sean, Thank You!!! I just bought a Navigation DVD Module (Player) for only $90.00 on ebay, which seems too cheap, but maybe I will get lucky and it will work.

The DVD's are still not cheap ($199) but they're current. Again I'd confirm they would work on your X350. Ask Cambo on this forum. I think he has both an XKR and an X350.
He's in the other thread.

I did ask Cambo, he said it would not work on the X350. But I was thinking, maybe there is another car besides Jaguar that uses the same navigation system as the X350. I will start up google. :-)

Well, do let us know if you find anything 'cos it's generally reckoned 2011/12 is the latest for the X350.

Yeah sorry guys. I suspected they might be different but was worth a mention. Too bad as on the XK the 2017 Volvo maps are a perfect fit, right down to the British accent.
Funny, I never use the systems though so for me it's $200 I won't spend.

I'll see if I can find anything too.

I am coming to the conclusion that the map data file, i.e.; alldata.kwi, that is on that Volvo DVD (2 dvd set), that works on earlier XKs, X150 models, will work with the X350/X358. All one needs to do, is to burn a new DVD that includes the X350/X358 Jaguar Map DVD and the new map data file: alldata.kwi and its dependent files, indexdat.kwi and region.kwi, from the Volvo disk. Of course, I never seen the Volvo DVD, nor opened up the Jaguar DVD to see what’s inside, but being a retired software guy and knowing that Navteq (here.com) developed these maps, it’s something to look into. I would like to see whats in the Volvo DVD (2 dvd set) , maybe I will just buy one and try it. Any feedback on this would be helpful, before I jump into this <grin> And I know what Cambo said about pressed disks compared to burnt disks and burnt disks burn out and might even overheat the DVD Player, but... Maybe even the ‘loading.kwi’ file from the Volvo disk, if it has one, will work on the X350/358, maybe???

Did more research on that 2017 Volvo Map DVD - If TomTom uses TeleAtlas maps in the USA, and Nevteq maps in Europe, this Volvo DVD ‘may’ use TeleAtlas maps, not Navteq maps or both TeleAtlas and Navteq maps. But some people in the US, that have TomTom as their Navigration system, say their touch display says ‘Navteq Maps’.

“Navteq's principal rival Tele Atlas was acquired by TomTom in 2008.”

Which gps program uses navteq for maps? eg.TomTom, Mapopolis...

Best i could find was 2010 maps for the x350 in the UK, and as we here in Scotland have just had a whole new Motorway system built, that's pretty useless, and with smartphones having GPS and real time traffic updates, it's cheaper and easier to just stick the phone to the Jag screen and use that.

I am following this thread with great interest, and I thank you all for your valuable inputs.
I am no expert in technology. In case this "Volvo solution" really works, I wonder if it just updates the data or it also updates the software as well. The GPS on our cars runs on a pretty old software, and introducing the information is a pain in the back.

The ‘loading.kwi’ is the firmware file; Jaguar S, XJ, XJ8, XJR, and X-type(s) seem to have the same navigation units, and there apparently are certain newer cars other than Jaguar, that share similarlaties to the these older Jaguar navigration units, like the ‘loading.kwi’ file and the data map files, with all it’s dependent files. Maybe I should be looking at a different brand/type car, like Toyota or Lexis, because as of now, I don’t even know if the Volvo disk even has a ‘loading.kwi’ file.

Shadowmite.com Blog » Continued ? Loading.kwi ? Analyzing (patching?) the Denso Navigation firmware?
https://www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum...ad.php?p=92360

From what I’m reading on the 2017 Volvo disk, the newer Volvo firmware file doesn’t load in the X150, just the data map files/dependent files load.
