Default New 2008 XJ8 - but second Jag in stable

Hello all -

Usually hanging out in the XJ6 SIII forum based on my 1986, but recently had to get rid of my daily driver C230 (would not pass smog here in Raleigh). In a moment of insanity I bought a 2008 XJ8 (X358) with 130,000 miles and so far love it. But true to form, several issues have cropped up and I just wanted to post pictures and my short list. Full disclosure.. I have not had time to crawl this forum for answers into all these issues, and certainly will.

o Headliner sagging in a few spots (Long push pins in specific places will be my first band-aid patch)

o When sunroof is closed, if I push up on glass from inside, the pass side is solid and does not move. However, the drivers side lifts up almost 1/4".
It operates OK open/close, but seems like whatever mechanism that applies upward pressure is not working on one side. Keep my drains clean !!

o Driver door seal on body frame (not door) is ripped and tattered. Will replace if getting it out/in is not a huge PITA.

o Learned about the bonnet "keep it up" plungers the hard way. Recalled reading they fail after time and this morning it came crashing down on my head and elbow as I
was involved in my project mentioned below. Are these plungers easily removed/replaced? It did not seem like they were simply bolted to bonnet/wing mount points.

o Have had the car for a week and on day 6 at about 8pm, the car alarm went off. Odd.. turned it off and went to bed a bit later. 11:30 pm and was awoken by car alarm...
Curious... turned it off. 2 f'ing 30am and it went off again. In my pajamas disconnecting the battery. Removed horn fuse next morn and went to work and researched a bit
The infamous bonnet latch switch. After pulling connector this morning (bonnet crashing on head!) and inserting a paper clip and electrical taping it up, we hope for the best !!

o Finally, not an issue per se, but when I accelerate from a stop and around 25-35 MPH, the transmission grumbles/growls/vibrates mildly. After 35 or so this goes away. I know
this tranny has issues, but not sure if this is any of the big three items listed in the pinned posts at the top of this forum. Pan and gasket was replaced by PO, so fresh fluid
within last 30K miles.

OK - love all the help and comments and info on all of these forums and hope not to have to visit too often - ha ha ha !!

Its an addiction, cat scratch fever claims yet another victim.
There's a pair in my now heated garage, they like to stay warm.
So i can work on them in the winter, in warmth.

...but the X358 will be your pet Pet.

P.S. with a steering wheel and gear knob like that, who's gonna look up at the headlining?

So now you have two. Be very, very careful as the addiction can get ALLOT worse. Trust me.

Wear parts you don't yet need just yet, but acquired at such a great price you couldn't resist.
Old bits & pieces of old parts that still work, like the sensor on the thermostat housing, or the over flow tank.
Old trans pan bolts, hold the under body plastic panels on nicely.

I have four motorcycles, Gold Wings, two Jaguars, & a Honda Civic in vehicles to maintain..
The garage is overflowing, i have a time trying to keep up with everything.
Don't forget the lawn mower, & snow blower.
Need to extend the garage another twenty feet, or so.
But no money for that, as the house always could use something.
As well as the Wife & animals that need looked after, think.i'm about maxed out.

Default I can help a little on two items

Both the driver side seals were bad. Passenger side looked fine.
Went an import junk yard and found a cat with matching color. I thought. Ended up with rear not matching front. But changing is easy. Pull sill plate at bottom and peel one out. Peel replacement in.
The hood struts are a five minute job. Rock auto has the OEM for Sachs 10.00 - 15.00 each. There is a metal clip. Slide a thin screwdriver under middle of the clip. Lift up and pop off the peg. Pushes on.
I would replace trunk while at it.
