Hey guys......I dont want to get into the debate about the type of oil but what is the recommend miles per oil change?

regular oil?

synthetic?

for a xj8 2004?

I've been using Mobile 1 Full Synthetic with great results and I usually change it every 5000 miles with a Wix filter. The last time around I used Mobile 1 Extended performance and after 2000 miles the oil still looks brand new.

IMHO, changing synthetic every 5,000 miles seems excessive to me. I use dino oil and change every 5,000. Oil always looks clean. New filter with each change as well. Your nickel though.

 

I use Mobile 1 synthetic and I run it for 10,000 miles. Read your manual and then decide. IMO changing any quality oil at 5,0000 miles in these cars is excessive. Ho boy! Is that going to rile up the natives.

 

AMSOIL has recommended oil change intervals of 25,000 and 35,000 (I believe they also have a type where the change interval is a lot less, such as 7,000 - which, to me doesn't seem to be worth it, since I put a lot of miles on most of my vehicles) depending on the oil you get. Oil filter change intervals are 1/2 the oil change, depending on the type driving you are into, such as if you drive on dirt roads all the time, regular traffic or highway driving.
I only just got my Jag and it isn't running yet, so I can't tell you about this particular car (I believe the cylinders are nikasil), but my other cars, being Honda Civic (307k), Oldsmobile Aurora (250k), F-350 (386k - and I recently put in an oil filter bypass system), F-150(s) (270k and 285k) seem to indicate that those change intervals are okay.
You might check with an AMSOIL dealer for your specific car.

 

I've been using AMSOIL in my 04 XJ8 for the year or so that I've had it (I've used AMSOIL in all my cars for 14 years). AMSOIL doesn't make a filter specifically for the Jag, so I've been using Mann oil filters and changing every 4 months/5K miles.

My '04 XJ8 now has 162K miles. I am the original owner and I change my own oil at around 7500 miles. I always use Castrol 5W/30W Synthetic Blend and Fram filters (PH5618). The engine runs smooth and uses less than .5 quart between oil changes, and still delivers 31 mpg on trips. I think I'll stick with this approach.

Jaguar recommend on oil change miles is a service every 10,000 miles or every year, and this includes oil and filter change . Nothing strange there then ! If you do a lot of short journeys, I personally change the oil and filter much sooner, lie about 7,500 or thereabouts, but then that's me, a cautious type. For me the mantra is "Oil is cheap, engines are expensive", and I am not a rich man.
