Default Oil change questions

2008 Jaguar XJ8 L 48,000 miles

Is an oil change easily done? I've read there may be parts in the way of the filter and or plug, I haven't crawled under her yet, to check it out.
What type of oil filter is best?

If it is similar to mine, a 2005 XJR, you have to take off the undershields. The front undershield to get at the filter and the large middle one to get at the plug.

Took longer to take of the shields than it did to do the oil and filter change.

Then its easy.

I bought a filter from Carid on Ebay. Not the cheapest and not the most expensive and I used synthetic 5w 30 oil.

The owners handbook specifies a 5w30 oil meeting Ford/Jaguar spec M2C 913-B.
(913-C and 913-D are fine as they supercede and exceed 913-B).

Thank you! The shields are still out from when I took the manifold out, so I'm a step ahead. I took the shields off to look for that one "stupid" hose that goes inter the intake manifold.

I don't have an owners manual, and I'm having a hard time finding out how much oil I need to add, when I change it. Thank you!

It takes about 7.5 to 8 litres. With 2 large jugs, you will have a bit left over.

Honestly other than removing the shield with the filter location it's one of the easiest oil changes out there. I modified my shield to no longer require its removal.

I filled with 7.5 quarts the first time and ended up vacuuming a quart out through the dipstick.

Yeah 7.5 is a bit much. I filled with just shy of 7 quarts this weekend and was right at the line.

I've posted the link to the 2008MY X350 Owner's Handbook JJM 10 02 21 802 before but here it is again:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/q8t53o..._02_21_802.pdf

Oil specification is on page 218:
An oil of 5W-30 viscosity to Jaguar specification WSS M2C913 - B must be used in all vehicles with a petrol engine. For top up purposes only, where the WSS M2C913 - B specification cannot be found, ACEA A3/B3 or ACEA A1/B1 specification oils may be used.

Oil capacity is on page 219
V6 engine, including oil filter: 6.5 litres (6.87 US quarts)
V8 engine, naturally aspirated, including oil filter: 6.0 litres (6.34 US querts)
V8 engine, supercharged, including oil filter: 6.8 litres (7.19 US quarts)
