Oil change X350
I changed the front rotors and pads today on my car and thought I'd do a quick oil change as well.
That was a non starter as I couldn't remove the plastic pan under the car. I can see three bolts at the front end of the car and when you turn them there is a crack like something plastic is snapping, I have a feeling the bolts are connected to spire nuts and they are just turning.
In the middle of the pan there is two studs with nuts on and on the outside there are two Philips screws, is that the way the unit comes off?

Hi Dave,
On our '04, all the fasteners for the large splash guard do thread all the way out, so it's possible your three screws that won't come out are in spire nuts (what we call speed nuts in the U.S.) that are not wanting to let the threads pass properly. It may help if you can pry the heads of the screws downward with a thin flat screwdriver, split trim fastner tool, etc., while turning the head of the screw to remove it.
Perhaps others will have a better idea.
P.S. The X350 Workshop Manual has a diagram that shows the locations of all the fasteners for the splash guard. You can download the manual in six sections from the 'HOW TO' quick links thread near the top of the home page of this X350 forum.
Cheers,
Don

Don,
I have tried to download the X350 manual and I know it's on my laptop but not sure where or how to open it, I'll try again I think.
Computer basics I'm fine with but downloading stuff like that seems to get my head in a spin as the instructions never show what my laptop does!

Hi Dave,
The files are in standard .pdf format and can be read by the free Adobe Acrobat Reader that most computers have installed by default. It sounds like your web browser is saving the files in a location unknown to you. If you can choose to have the files saved to your desktop it will be easier to find them and then move them to a new folder that you can name X350 Workshop Manual or something similar.
If you're using a PC (not a Mac), you may be able to find the files you've already downloaded by going to My Computer, clicking on the C: drive, then holding the Ctrl button and clicking the letter F. A search window will come up. Type in part of the name of one of the files, such as the word Workshop, then click the button to search. When the files begin to appear in the window, you'll be able to locate where your browser has stored them.
I'm sorry if my directions are unclear. Please let me know if I can clarify anything.
Cheers,
Don
Check out this link by member edobernig which shows a picture of the under engine plastic shield. There are bolts, nuts and screws. The bolts and nuts use a 10mm socket and the two screws use a phillips screwdriver. There are three bolts across the very front edge, two screws a couple inches going back (hidden up deep in the holes), two nuts in the middle and two bolts on each side located at the very rear wing area of the shield.

Remove the plastic underneath air deflector tray (C2C37000 part number) - Seven 10mm bolts (C2C32665 part number); two 10 mm nuts (XR854810 part number); and the 2 Phillips screw in the front recessed up in the two holds.

The front 3 screws thread into a threaded bar that is riveted in place. If they just spin, then the rivets corroded and broke loose. You may have to drill them and re-rivet the bar back in place.
Or, there is a chance the screws are already out and you're just spinning the driver in the empty holes. When the screws come out, they fall loose on the cover and have to be retrieved once the cover is loose. Always install these 3 screws first, so you can lower the cover easily if you drop them while feeding them through those holes in he cover...
