Default oil pan gasket confusion

Hello all, i'm fixing an oil leak from the pan gasket. I dropped the pan today and went to install the rubber gasket ( Mahle OS32287 ). Problem is, when i inserted the gasket along the bottom of housing there is about a 1" excess of gasket. I removed and tried again, but it appears too long. I searched online and this board and folks have used this same gasket part number with success. I'm confused... is there something i'm forgetting or did they change pans during a model year? I have a 2005 XJR.

here is the one i purchased:

2004 XJR - used this gasket.

No issues. Make sure the surface is as clean as possible. Should only go in one way.

No gap after install.

Make sure your not installing upside down.

I do not I ordered at least 3 different ones before I got one that was the correct size.

i'm searching online and i find differences...when i go to Cary Jaguar's site they have a different gasket number, but almost all other sites show the gasket i used. I'm guessing they used a different pan on some models. Maybe you and I ended up with non supercharger engine oil pans. Very odd and i'm gonna order a few like you did and figure it out in the driveway. Probably cheaper then the dealership.

I ordered part number NCA-1730AD which is what Cary Jaguar suggested. Hope it works this time...i'll update this thread on the results.
