Default P0327 & P0332 - Harness Related

I decided to start a new thread on this. On my other thread I thought I suffered from water ingress into my PCM. I squared that today and a P0327 came back within 2 minutes of starting the car.

I tested each KS and resistance was within spec. I then checked for voltage on the passenger side. 4.9V then I wiggled the harness and then i heard a spark and zero volts.

I went into the harness to separate the KS wire from the harness. The factory splice looked suspect as one end is open and can be exposed to the elements.

I wrapped up the harness, testing for voltage and I connected the plug, started the car and all was good until about 10 minutes into my drive and P0327 came back. Wiggled the harness and it went away.

Tore open the KS circuit and was hesitant but cut the splice off the circuit. I opened it up (it was corroded) and the KS wire is a cable type wire where the shielding is the neg and the center wire is +5V. I think the copper of the center wire was shorting out to ground.

I'm going to re-construct these connections tomorrow. If all goes well on bank 1 going to do the same for bank 2 (with pics) as that code came up previosly as well. (P0332)

So net, net if you get a KS low voltage code check your harness up front.

Good luck and a few tips that may help

1. When you cut back the harness keep going a bit beyond where you notice the corrosion stops. Or better still remove the pins from both ends and replace with new pins and cable
2. Use pre-tinned wire. This is often sold as "marine" wire. Its a bit more expensive but is designed not to corrode

Cheers

I was able to get this squared away today. I left the passenger KS harness alone for now but if it acts up I will fix that side as well.

I did take pics and will follow up and post my "step by step" at some point this week right after I sort my sons Audi.

Did you ever post your step by step and pictures?
I have a xk8 with the exact same issue and I don't fancy splitting the whole loom. Where do you think the short was????

Let me see if I can find them. I will say in the end I believe mine was a water ingress issue to the PCM and a bad knock sensor.

In the meantime I have 1/4W - 200ohm jumpers in each knock sensor harness to trick the ECM all is well until i can find time to break everything down to swap them out along w/ the hose under the SC.

I cannot attach any pics but thinking now I'd leave the harness alone and focus on doing a resistance test on the knock sensor and test for voltage at the harness.

When I cut the actual wire I was shocked and appalled as there is the actual sending wire, then a copper shield then the rubber covering.

I had to carefully solder the sending wire, insulate then solder the copper shielding - then insulate that.

I thought I was going to need to hunt down a replacement engine harness.

The short was about 12" up from the plug that has (I think a factory splice) mine was green and corroded.

Stupid question, but where is the plug for the bank 1 knock sensor on a 05 XJ8 x350? I need to check it before the knock sensor itself. I have code P0327.

Thanks!

Richard
