Default Passenger airbag - intermittent disable

Hi everyone, I recently purchased a 2004 XJ8. I love it so far, but there is one issue. The 'airbag off' light on the passenger side goes on and off intermittently. This only occurs with an adult passenger in the seat, sitting still with butt in seat and feet on floor. The passenger weighs more than 125lbs. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to when the light comes on, nor how long it stays on for. It doesn't seem to flash any sort of code at startup and this happens whether the passenger is in the seat when I start the car, or gets in after.

Does anyone have any trouble shooting advice?

Thanks!

Well I'm interested in this thread as well. My 04 XJ8 has done the same thing for over a month now. Heavier passengers seem to keep the light off.. I'll be following this thread! Good luck!

There's a automatic measurement of the position of the person on the seat.
If the person sits very uncommon, the light might occur.
Probably some of your sensors in the roof are defective .. they measure the position.
Not shure, but there might also be sensors in the seat for measuring weight..

I had the same issue, even had the dealer check it out. They recalibrated the seat but couldn't find an issue. Turns out it goes on when my wife leans forward in the seat. You can test it in your car. Have an adult sit in a normal position while the car is running then have them fiddle around - lean forward to tie their shoe, etc. You'll see the light go on. My guess is the airbag disables because it would cause harm if it deflated while so close to the occupant.

Update: looks like the issue is resolved, the dealer reset and recalibrate the sensor, so far so good!
