Default question

My chrome exhaust tips have some black residue on the bottom....I used to have some on my E55 but not quite as much...could the car be running a little rich? Should I mention this to the dealer at my first oil change or should I just ignore it? It's an '08 XJR...

Thanks

Its nothing to worry about really, its crap in the gasoline getting burned up in the engine...id be more worried if they always stayed clean which means youre driving it too easy and your motor will get fouled up...common on a lot of the high performance exotics and even some highlines from being driven way too easily.

You should def clean them just as you would your wheels everytime you wash the car or they will become stained n disgusting.

hope this helps -Erik

the exhaust tips on my XJR are dirty/black every time I wash it once a week.. I just use the wheel rag and wipe the whole chrome tip down.

I use a shaken wheel brush to clean the exhaust tips after I finish washing the wheels. I go as deep into the muffler as the brush allows and do not rinse it out. The inside of the mufflers look like new. Try Never Dull on the exhaust tips for occasional deep clean/polish.

Hey Rusbel. I think your car, as well as all other XJR's, do run a little rich. I had my car on the dyno a few weeks ago and the sensors that were attached to my car indicated that I was running extremely rich. At some points, my Air/Fuel Ratio was pegged at 10:1 which is unbelievably rich.

Shouldn't be an issue though...
