Default question on a 2005 xj8 VDP I just purchased

Hello

I just picked up a 2005 XJ8 VDP with 38k. I am about to have my mechanic look the car over and go through any fluids etc etc that may need to be changed. With the miles I have and the year of the year, is there any other issues I should tell my mechanic to look for that may not come to his mind right away. From all indications so the far, the car runs great. Thanks Jason

You should congratulate yourself for finding a car with such low mileage for the year. 2005/38k = 5500 miles per year, well below average. Having said this, the air suspension compressor behind the front bumper should maybe be checked out. If you have no suspension fault messages then its probably OK. Have a look at rear lower wishbone bushes, and lower air spring bushes. All these shoud be OK, so don't worry too much, it sounds like you have bought a peach not a lemon.

Also, the front brake rotors warp pretty quick, depending how the car was driven.
You may want to disconnect the battery, so the ecu can learn how you drive

Jason, If I may ask, what did you pay for that XJ and how many owners did it have. 96K would be average mileage for a car of that year. if you can, post some picks. I am sure many here would love to se it.

+1, I'm in the market for a 2005 to 2006 XJ8-L with around 30,000 to 60,000 miles, probably in the spring. I'm new to Jags and would like to see some pics of your recent acquisition!

Default 2005 xj8 vdp updates

I paid 14k for the car....I first agreed at 15k but the headliner needs to be fixed and fluids need to be changed (normal service stuff) so the gentleman to 1k off the price. 2 owner car...guy i bought it from bought it in 2009 in florida with 10k miles....carfax backed up his story....I found it on craigslist.

Also had brand new Pirelli tires on it....

I need to have it detailed as well and there is a couple minor scratches that a friend of mine who isa body guy will repair via air brushing....

No door dings...no curb rash on 19" inch wheels.....everything in the car works great....no complaints so far...

Pic is just a quick one from my garage....

Looks nice, and you got a great deal!..strange though the grille is the older 'slot' style, not the mesh.

My 05 Vdp also has the slot chrome grille. Not the mesh.
I think mesh was on xjr and super v8?

Also, if you decide to update the NAV software (because it's terrible), I would recommend only buying from a reputable source (Navteq, dealer, etc.), should be about $200. Many folks, including myself, have have major issues trying to do this. If you do this, make sure to NOT shut off the car once the update starts (and the update can take 15 to 30 or more minutes). You will see some posts on this website that say insert the DVD, turn off, then on - don't ever turn it off, until the update is done.

Check out the thread on "Nav DVDs", they are $53 + on a site listed there. I purchased a disk and it only took about 2 minutes to upgrade.
Have had no problems as yet, I just hate the simple graphics that Jag has. I dont remember which year it is but it works great!
