Rear Number Plate Lights Melted
G'day, Has anybody had issues with the number plate light globe holders and mounting melting (please see attached photo's)? And does anybody know how to get the black mounting section off the trunk please? I have removed the liner from the trunk lid and the plastic trim (with JAGUAR lettering). Still cant see how to get the mountings out. Kind regards Gary
Hi Dave, Thanks for the photos. I note that the bulb holders shown heat marks - must be a common problem. I will fit LED globes when I replace mine to reduce the heat. Regards Gary
No problem Gary. I installed LED's in most of my LED lighting(including license plate lights), and I am happy with the results. I bought that assembly pictured for the lens, as my car was missing the lens. I only noticed it fell off when I went to open the trunk and burned my finger on the bulb. Luckily, I had plenty of LED bulbs laying around, so I swapped them in.
Hi All, I've finally replaced the melted number plate lights. Not a simple task. Remove the trunk lid "carpet" liner.
Remove the "jaguar" trim strip with the trunk release button (6 nuts and double sided sticky tape at the ends).
Remove the plastic trim cover that the lights fit into. To do this I pulled the trim piece from the bottom edge. This was going well (I could hear the double sided tape/foam parting) until I heard a crack. This was one of the trim retaining clips breaking. In for a penny. in for a pound, I continued and managed to break all the clips. I can't see the point of the clips as the double sided sticky tape runs all around the edge of the trim piece very close to the clips. The number plate lights are inserted into the trim from the rear. The longest part of the task is removing the old sticky tape and glue. The new lights cost $AU 55.00 each and are left and right handed. I will monitor the trim piece in the next few weeks to unsure it has stayed in place (it can't fall off).
Now the next task, rear suspension control arm rubbers which have split.
Kind regards
Gary
