Repair sunroof without dropping the headliner
If your problem is broken lifter arms... this is possible to do without dropping the headliner.
If your problem is broken lifter arms, they can be purchased from The Sunroof Doctor - Your source for replacement sunroof & t-top parts!, they come attached (by pop rivet) to a guide that slides in the sunroof track.
If you remove the glass, and drill out the pop rivets from the cabin side with a 1/8" bit, on both the broken and replacement parts, you can attach the new lifter arms to the guide using an M3 Machine Screw, Washer and Locking Nut.
Total time to repair was about two hours, including cleaning out all the broken plastic parts from the old arms.
Sunroof Doctor also supplied some instructions with the procedure on how to realign the arms, reattach the glass and calibrate, I followed those and I now have a working sunroof again
I have some pictures somewhere and will upload them soon. Hope this helps someone else avoid dropping their headliner unnecessarily.

The part number i removed was 1W98-A-3101-B, however the replacement part was a very slightly different number. Although the website didn't list the XJ, they knew the model when I called to order.
I did find an exploded part diagram on the webasto website when I was buying the part, but the site seems to have changed since then. If I find it again I will post that.
