Default Self Leveling Headlights

Good day gents
I remember when I used to start my car, I would see the lights sort of going down and up before settling down to the correct level.
This is not happening now and wonder what or where I should be looking.
FYI, I had kept this car parked for the past 5 years and only recently started waking it up.
The first thing I had to do is change all 4 air struts with Arnotts, and headlights' electronic boards - not sure what they are called - as both headlights were out of action because of them.
I now sent it to the mechanic to change a few bits in the front suspension that were shot, before driving it again to check for any further issues.
Any comments will be highly appreciated.
Regards

I run in the problem last year and fixed it in January when I got my SDD setup running:
Some time last year I had to replace my headlight due to road debris damage. I bought used from E-bay. came from same range VIN as min, as far as I can say. same HID.
I very seldom have opportunity observe headlight from outside when car is driven.
But I noticed that occasionally replacement headlight would flicker, the light beam motion is not as pronounced as before if any and wife made a comment that replaced headlight is dimmer.
When I had SDD up and running, I run car scan and system told me that there is an issue with replaced headlight module "no communication" or something of that kind.
I still had the original headlight. I took ballast from it in put it on replaced headlight.
Now everything is happy!
There caution should be exercised when selecting the ballast as there are view different once: varies by number of the contacts in connector. Even then, some has right connector but do not have driver for stepper motor that moves light. If you go that whay make shure you are getting ballast for earlier version of 2004 models.

Thanks for your contribution Big Kosha.
Actually in the meantime I ordered a Foxwell Scanner with the Jaguar software on it and I just got it before the week end.
So when the car is out of the mechanic, I will run a diagnostic scan and look for any faults.
The ballasts that I got were identical to the old ones, so hopefully i should be ok there.
Thanks again

The two ballasts original and one that came with replacement headlight were same part number only different date code. It can be that replacement ballast was defective. I did some reading on the forum and off. There is a confusion about this ballast: definitely there are different part number between earlier vehicles with 4 height sensors and latter with 3 height sensors; but even then, there are some inconsistencies.

There is a procedure to reconfigure or calibrate the headlamps.
When you replace or repair a headlamp it requires WDS/IDS or some other diagnostic equipment.

@motorcarman I have SDD, may I ask you to point out where can I find the procedure. I was looking in Workshop manual but did not find anything.
If it is in SDD/WDS/IDS can you point me to a starting point?

I have no idea how to navigate SDD. If it can revert to Legacy IDS then find the SETUP AND CONFIGURATION TAB (car with the wrench) and keep clicking open the tabs until you find a reference to the headlamps.
I have done it a few times but never remember exactly where it is. I just poke around until I go "oh yea, that's where it is'.

X350 202 2003 2004 2005 had 4 hight sensors until about G26...vin code. One of those probably rear one gave info for the headlights with xenon D1s bulbs ballast in the bottom of headlights box was Valeo LAD5G 12 pin with self leveling . If you buy new ballast and install it it will not support leveling anymore... later models do not have that function any more ... ballast at some point (LAD5GL 4 PIN )unnecessary airsuspension levels car anyways. ( AUDI TT 8N with xenon USE THE SAME heightsensor( two) boxes for their leveling .
over Sdd while qustion come up switch from xenon to the other bulb system ... it will delete the orange light on the dash

From the TSB XJ204-05
2004 MY-on XJ range vehicles from VIN G26872, will be built without the front right side
air suspension height sensor, bracket and electrical harness.
