Starter problem
Hi everybody. My car is XJ6 2009 . Three monts ago, I have a low coolant level with batery problem. The jaguar service , recommended change batery, afther that, it doesn’t start, only click sound. They put out the starter and says it’s ok. Actually the problem persists, only click and no start. Thank you for your help. Nice day for everybody.
Hi Carlos,
It may be difficult to help without more information, but my first questions would be, what is the battery voltage at rest? It should measure at least 12.5 volts. Now, what is the voltage while attempting to crank the engine? Is it significantly lower than 12.5 volts?
Is it possible the new battery needed to be charged but hasn't been? Is it possible that its Cranking Amps (CA) rating is too low for an X350/X358?
Cheers,
Don

Thank you for your answer. The battery is new with the specifications for the car. Now I have another problem. At the garage they put out the starter, just before it make a “click” sound. After they put in the starter , and now no click sound and no start.
Hi Carlos, if the car drove into the Jaguar repair shop under its own power then I would expect it to be able to start up and drive out again? What do the Jaguar repair men have to say about the problem?
Jaguar starters are changed rather infrequently as they're well built and reliable. With that being said, the first thing that you would want to do is to hook up a DC voltmeter to the battery terminals, and monitor the battery voltage while attempting to crank the engine. If the starter is actually being engaged, you would notice a slight dip in the battery voltage as the starter will draw quite a bit of current. If not, you may need to look elsewhere for the problem. Be sure that the battery terminals are clean and snug, and also check the earth grounds in the trunk (boot).
