Default Starting problems

Hi, I have a 1984 XJ6 Vande Plas series 3 has been sitting for 5 years with 21,000 miles. the problem is it tries to start and will do this twice then it will just crank. Any ideas on what to do to get it started? And it ran just fine when stored and put into a garage.

I don't know about the 1984 XJ6 Vande Plas, but you could try placing a jump on the battery for a few minutes. If it starts, then the battery may be due for a replacement.

Did you put fresh fuel in it?, fuel does go off after sitting, might just be stale fuel, or a clogged filter, possibly the fuel pump, but I would start with fresh fuel

I drained both tanks changed fuel filter and installed new fuel pump and installed fresh gas. I also removed spark plugs and sprayed fogging oil in the cylinders with a 1/4 cup of Royal Purple engine brake in oil to lubricate the rings and cylinder walls. I am in the process of installing new injectors and Mass air flow unit. I hope that this will take care of most of the problems in the fuel line. Any suggestions ? Remember this car ran before it was stored and by the way, I also put a new battery in.

Is the fuel pump going out a common issue?

I know battery will drain but fuel pump may old?-- Is it a diaphragm pump or perstalic?
