Steering wheel swap precautions?
I want to swap my 2007 original heated leather steering wheel with my newly acquired 2008 wood & leather steering wheel. Is this procedure a simple one, or since an airbag is involved, should be left to a qualified mechanic or a Jaguar dealership?
Actually, only people who are qualified to work with explosive devices should work on airbags (this applies for Germany, at least)!
Having said that, the job is not difficult. Safety procedures are to disconnect the battery and wait 10-15min before starting to work (the workshop manual states 1 min waiting time, but better safe than sorry...). This time is to make sure that condensators in the system get discharged.
The removed airbag needs to be stored with the side facing you when driving upwards.
You can find the removal and installation procedure in the workshop manual posted in the forum. Look under "Body and Paint" -> "Supplemental Restraint System".
Best regards,
Thomas
