Default Steering Wheel question?

I have a wonderful XKR with a leather steering wheel, BUT, I
would like to have the leather/wood steering wheel.

I got my hands on a preowned 2000 XK8 wheel but the side
pods are different.

Would any one know if the pods can be switched and if the older
steering wheel would fit at all on my 2006?

IF not, would any one know where I could pick up a wheel
close to my year model?

Thanks in advance everyone!

I feel the exact same was as you Tim, after having wood (no jokes please) I don't think i can go back to a full leather wrapped wheel. Good job, document the swap with pics and writeup, and I'll FAQ it...and perhaps use it in the future. (on my next XJ of course)

Ditto! Funny, but driving home this evening, I became very aware of the "wood", and proud that it was there (yes, no jokes please - we love these machines!) DaleD

My brain just twigged the "2006" bit............Are we talking the earlier shape or later shape model XK?

If you have the later then I am afraid it is a no........I am swapping my wood steering wheel for the new shape XKR wheel with the flappy paddles, I am in the other camp and prefer the leather to the wood

My model would be the last year of the last style before the newest style model.

I owned an Alfa Romeo Spyder for years...came stock with an all wood DiNardi steering wheel...only thing on that car that never broke, and always looked sooo good. Very slippery in cold weather unless you're wearing leather gloves. Wool or cloth don't grip lacquered mahogany well.
