Default Stereo Help!

Hi,

While I have read the threads on how difficult it is to add modern connectivity to my 2008 XJ8-L, I am posting this to see if anyone has had recent success.

Here is what I know about the car I just picked up: It has 2 speakers in the dash, 2 in the front door, and 2 in the rear door, that is 6, plus 2 tweeters on the front doors near the door handle.

I was told by the dealer this is an Alpine, but think I was lied to. I have a single CD, and no navigation. I have a factory satellite antenna, but no Satellite radio. I do have an option for a CD changer, but not installed.

I would like some advice from the experts here, and tell me what you can about the equipment, and options I might have. Using bluetooth, I can connect my iPhone to the car, it will play the calls in the car speakers, it will play my VOICE mails through the cars speakers, but I cannot play music to the car...

Is my unit really Fiber connected? Is the satellite antenna REALLY fiber to the head unit preventing a satellite add on unit to be connected?

Can I just install a new system with the faceplate in the ashtray, or are my speakers 4 ohms like Audio express said they might be, requiring a gut and re-install of speakers, amps, head unit, etc?

Ideally, all I need is a usb or blue tooth.

I am in Richmond VA, not near al and Eds, whom I called and said the options for my model year are next to impossible.

Appreciate your latest advice - Thanks

It depends if you want to use factory parts or go aftermarket. If you use Jag parts, I got lucky and found a NOS dealer in Birmingham, UK that had a Jaguar Connectivity Kit for sale - and I paid dearly for it, around £260 (about $600 by the time I got it to the States). Works great with my iPod, lets you switch between CD and USB/Bluetooth/Aux jack, so if you don't have a CD player installed, shouldn't be a problem. But they are getting hard to find, so you might want to look for something similar on the aftermarket you could connect through the CD changer leads.

Default Alpine aftermarket stereo with wireless CarPlay

So I know they make a model for my car, it’s an ‘06 s-type. But it’s super nice and also pricey but you can upgrade from the factory stereo. You can even purchase an adapter to keep the steering wheel controls. I haven’t spent the money for mine yet. I have also seen lots of sellers on eBay selling factory stereos and there not all that expensive. Crutchfeild has the new alpine. Good luck!
