Tail Light Chrome Surround not flush anymore
Anyone seen this and know of a solution? On the d/s rear tail light, the chrome surround is no longer flush with the plexiglass of the light. It has a gap of 3/4" on the outside. The inside stil lappears to be attached to the light. IMHO this design looks like junk, on every XJ8 I have seen, this piece of trim flaps around.
Is the solution a replacement of this part (I suspect TX heat may have something to do with it)?
Thanks

I have the same problem on the passenger side. My dealer told me "not covered under SE or extended warranty" after only a month of ownership.
A little adhesive should fix it though.

theres a bulletin on fixing and applying special structural trim adhesive to resecure the trim...the repair method and adhesive sucks and is yellow, if not super carefull it will show since it tends to expand alittle when curing.
I prefer to carefully clean the rubber attached to the trim and clean the light. Then carefully pull away from the light and run a thin bead of Super Glue to the contact surfaces, press, hold, release. Note:if youre sloppy, the release might be a problem.
Youre done, and it works great. I have never had 1 come back off Ive done

Ive never had a problem, but use the gel then, its stays put, and less vapor
Been out of the country this week. Can anyone confirm whether the trim was originally glued and it has simply come un-glued or has the trim warped with time and/or heat?
Thanks

I had the same issue and paid to have it corrected. The dealership then attempted to fix it with "glue" and it was horrible. They left finger prints all over the lens/trim and there was still an unacceptable space.
They then replaced them both under the extended warranty by telling Jaguar Canada that the rear tail lights had failed. At $400 / unit, it would have been an expensive repair on my end and, IMO, should not be an issue on this vehicle.
Corrected in later years.

Just a quick update, as part of a lot of work yesterday, the dealer fixed the rear surround for free. They used a 2-part black epoxy glue and did a very good job, they removed both lights to work on them. You really can't tell that any work was done, the glue bead is very even and now the surround is not flapping around!

Tim, my right side xenon started flickering about three months ago. It finally blinked out. It was repaired last week by our friend Brutal at Momentum Jaguar here in Houston. The work order shows that the bulb and burner (C2N1716) were both replaced. Since the car is still under Select Edition, I don't have a detail of the actual costs. I spoke with Brutal by phone and he said the parts cost would have been a little over $400. I hope this is helpful.
Thanks JackJohn. I'm going to go with new Xenon D1S burners on both sides (otherwise the color will be off as they change color over time) and if that doesn't solve it I guess I am looking at a new ignition.
