Thanks for the reply. Had it replaced today.. NEW $880+ for the part plus labor.. OUCH!

Looked all over the internet for anything rebuilt but could only get used ones for $450 and a 30 day warranty. Didn't feel that would be the way to go to save $400. We'll see.

Just an addition for anybody trying to extend a faulty throttle body till you get up the nerve to replace it...

The symptom for this is the engine defaults to high idle with several fault codes mentioned in this thread.

To reset the problem, pull over, turn the engine off. Then, turn the key on, but do not start the engine. Slowly push the throttle to the floor over a 3-5 second interval and then slowly release the pedal. Do this 3 times. This action recalibrates the throttle body TPS.

Turn the key off and then start the car normally.

The TPS gets worse over time, so in the early stages recalibrating it may last for months. It will happen more frequently as it wears.

I bought a TPS (Denso 198500-3300) for $50 from Ebay after my 2005 XJ8L had all these codes and symptoms, I replaced the old TPS and car runs very well. I still have this "warning" in my mind about this, so your info is very helpful and I will keep it in mind. Thanks!

I have received a quote on having the 198500-3300 TPS sensors made, and am waiting for a sample to test and approve. If they send it to me, and it passes, I'm planning on getting a small quantity of them made and I'll offer them for sale. Based on the quote I have, I will probably offer them for $40-50 each, plus shipping. If you are interested in buying any, please email me directly (ceeanton@yahoo.com) and I'll keep you updated on the progress.

If your information was from a seller on Alibaba website, I doubt it is real. I contacted them months ago and they did not even make it but put the ad on the site.

No, it wasn't on Alibaba. I'm actually talking to a sales rep at the factory itself (Well, I should say, they CLAIM to be a sales rep for the factory.) And for that matter, talking might be too strong a term...they're Chinese, and I don't speak Mandarin. They claim to speak English, but it's barely intelligible to me. We're making progress in communicating...but slowly. For anyone that has emailed me, I'm still working on getting a sample to test. I'm hoping to have one in the next week or two. We'll see.

If there is one available from Denso that is just wired backwards. Would it be easier to have a gender changing harness / jumper made!

I think I would trust Denso. Wire is well, wire. I'm by no means an electronics guy but is this a Captain Obvious situation.

Maybe Gus can weigh in on this!

Sorry guys, I guess it's not going to happen. The factory rep and I emailed back and forth a couple of times, and everything looked good. They promised to send a sample for me to test, and then I never heard another word from them. Repeated requests for updates have gone completely unanswered.

If I find another small batch source, I'll let you know. In the meantime, good luck.

Thanks,
Anthony

Doesn't this basically solve the problem for us X350 folks?

Should come in under $200USD, including shipping.

Learned much from this oldie, thanks all!

Does anyone know the pinout of the "backwards" wired Denso sensor and what it should be? It can't be that hard to make a gender changer connector if thats the story.

They are definitely getting more reasonable. When mine first began acting up the best price I could find was $1300. I milked it for 3 years, and eventually paid $300 and change for a new TB. This is one of those parts that is getting cheaper fast. Bonus!

Yep, it says something about owning one of these when you get excited about a part priced at a bargain of $200.

I have looked recently and found TPS on e bay for my 2004 x350.. They are available, but further research found that they have to be set up with a meter of some sort. They appear to also be adjustable, part is slotted where fastened to the TB, but look at the screws!!! Very odd size torx?? head?? Not in my tool box that's for sure. Read that one guy tried to adjust it, caused all sorts of new problems. In the end, I'm just leaving it alone. Search e bay, you can find the TPS sold by itself cheap cost, as I recall. Brandon

It's a 5-point Torx, you can pick up sets on ebay for $30 or so.

The TPS is the same as the X-Type 2.5/3.0, S-Type >2003 and all petrol X350's. There are aftermarket ones available now, again on ebay but advertised for the X-Type. Try searching for the Denso part number 198500-3300

When you swap it out you need to put the new one on in the same position as the old one, you can see its possible to rotate them a few mm so be sure it goes back in the same position.

Have you done this successfully?

I remember a post from Brutal who said that you have to set it up to a voltage (? 5volts) but if you can

get away with marking the position of the old one and placing the new one in the same position that is

the answer.
