TouchScreen on the Fritz
Well, my touchscreen decided to pack it up, although not entirely. I'm able to access the nav screen but I can't choose or add a destination. It's display only North up. I can somewhat use the phone screen to call someone from the call list but the numbers on the screen don't work. The climate control screen works a bit but it has issues as well. I just got a new battery so I'm ruling that out as a culprit. I guess I'm in the market for a new or used touchscreen.
Update, the problem re-occurred and I took it to my Jag dealer. It turned out there were parts damaged on one of the circuit boards. The dealer cleaned out all the circuit boards and did some re-soldering and replaced a capacitor. Cost was about $875 and the touchscreen works like new. Considering the replacement cost quoted was $6000 I think it was reasonable. I did get a quote from an indie shop to get a used touchscreen unit and it was a bit cheaper but due to its location and my work location it was easier to go with the Jag dealer. I got a loaner XF AWD which was nice, but a bit cramped compared to my XJ.
The main reason for video screens to go blank are capacitors hitting the end of their life. You can uaually see the bad capacitor as the top will get a slight bulge to them.
Thanks of letting us know of your dealer fix.
