Default transmission adaptions, update, glow plug fault codes and SDD

Hi all,

Used this forum a couple of times and it's been exceptionally helpful. I recently had issues with my 6HP 26 trans in my 2.7 08 XJ x 350. Thankfully most of this has been sorted with an oil and filter change (65k). the trans is smooth once in gears but I have found the change harsher since I changed the oil (yep - the ZF lifeguard). I assume the clutch packs have to be re-calibrated to find their new locations?

As such I booked the car in at a Jag main dealer to have the adaptations re-set and have some updates (I believe the trans oil temp has been changed as when the gears change) - I note the changes are smoother when the trans is up to temp.

However they could not perform the updates as they said P670-00 Glow plug module control circuit had a permanent fault. I would have assumed they could update the trans with this fault still evident?

1) That P code is very generic - anyone got any fault diagnosis tips to ascertain the issue with the glow plug module. Do I need to bother?
2) I'm capable of doing the updates if I had the kit. I see about getting an SDD cd for my laptop and a mongoose to OBD cable from ebay - is this my best option for DIY fault diagnosis and can I put trans updates on with this kit?

For info I had one turbo and actuator replaced in the past. I have had lab reports and removed the trans oil cooler (sod of a job) and pressure tested it and I'm very confident engine coolant has never entered the trans. Many thanks
