Transmission flush via cooler lines, is it okay?
Well this is being put on the back burner yet again. One of the cooler lines burst and the fluid is low and causing all kinds of issues. I need to get it fixed and top the transmission back off and will probably do the pan in the near future to spread out the cost since the lines are $300, unless I can come up with a viable repair that doesn't leak. I'll be trying that today and it'll be getting Mercon SP since I'm sure there is no way I'm getting LG6 locally. When I talked to the dealer yesterday about ordering the lines I think they said the Jag branded fluid was about $50 a bottle.
Just an update on my situation. I cut the hoses off using a metal pipe cutter and repaired my lines using new hoses and screw clamps. I used Mercon SP because it was all I could manage on a Sunday at short notice. When I pulled the fill plug not much came out and the car had been sitting for 24 hours so it must have been at least two quarts low. Since I had the cooler lines off I used the trans pump to evacuate the system while I added fluid. I pumped about 10 quarts through the transmission and topped it off using ZF's fill instructions.
First impressions after a drive. Lurch is completely non existent, gone. Shift slop has disappeared and the shifts feel firm when I'm looking for them, but just putting around I no longer feel the shift it is so smooth. This should hopefully be the end of my gearbox faults since I'm now 99% sure it was from the low fluid level.

I was going to, but decided against it after seeing how thick the tubing was and how tight of a fit the 1/2 inch line already was. I did use two hose clamps on each end and fed the hose over the pipe around 4 inches.
hello 2 year jag tech.
what I do on cars for trans flush is replaced the pan because some model have the filter build on the pan and I replace the sleeve and fill the trans with 8qts of the trans oil (jaguar mineral sprit)

most dealerships if ask you can seat there and watch the tech do what you have request. like I said the right placed to service is a transmission is at 100,000 miles and you replaced the pan, gaskets sleeve and fill with 8 to 9 qts of fluid
Hi jagtech565,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.
ZF now recommends that the fluid in the 6HP26 be changed every 80K km/50K mi. to 120K km/75K mi. "depending on driving style." See the first ZF document attached below.
This forum is for the Jaguar X350, so the transmissions do have the filter in the pan.
Jaguar and ZF provide a very specific procedure for setting the fluid level at the correct temperature. Some members have reported requiring more than 10 quarts of fluid to fill the transmission following the correct procedure, so just filling with 8 to 9 quarts of fluid may leave the fluid level too low. See the approved procedure in the second ZF document attached below. Section 44.24.02 of the Jaguar X350 Workshop Manual also gives the procedure.
Also, since we're a friendly group, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction so we can learn something about you and give you a proper welcome.
Cheers,
Don
