I've checked on these forums on how to remove the upper console on a 2007 XJ8 but how found nothing definitive.

Anyone have a clue how to remove it? It doesnt seem to want to come out by pulling and i'm afraid to use more force. there is no screw I can see in the eyeglass slot.

Anyone please? I'm trying to replace my sagging headliner!

 

It's poorly described in the service manual: you need to pull down on the edge closest to the windshield (there's a multi-pin connector that is a tight fit). The edge with the glasses holder has a "U" that captures the edge of the headliner board. Don't pull on that edge. It required a fair amount of force. Here's a photo to show you what you're dealing with:
