Default Urgent! - No start

Hey guys,
I'm in a rut with my 05 XJ8 Vanden Plas- 30k miles

Ok, so when you start the car, you can see the gauge needles climb, hear 2 ignition "ticks," and a belt turning. You can also hear a brief electrical hum when you put it into Accessory. However, after the 2nd tick, the engine/starter dies out. I've tried changing the fuel filter and adding injector cleaner to no avail. The headlights seem to flicker when you try to start the car, too- didnt happen before. I really need some advice!

Thanks a million

My best guess for what its worth.

The battery is not up to snuff, and/or the battery cable connections. The +ve connector and "master fuse" thingy in that connector is also high on my list.

Matt,
I've moved your post to the XJ tech section so you'll get expert help.
Clean the battery connections and the bolt attaching the earth strap to the body by the battery.
Do all the dash lights go out when you get your 'click'?

I have clean battery terminals and the cable is good. The battery has never been replaced. When the click happens, nothing happens to the electrics :\

Sounds like a classic symptom of needing a new battery especially considering it original.

Yep agree with the guys - classic battery symptoms, try a jump start from a known good one/car, if it springs into life you need a new battery.
