I have recently built a laptop with IDS 118.5 installed and purchased an original Rotunda VCM. When I first connected the VCM to the USB port and brought up IDS, it asked me to upgrade to firmware to the VCM which was successful. I was able to connect to my car (2004 XJR) and read the configuration data which was stored in the laptop but soon after that, IDS would crash (testman.exe would crater). I have tried this many, many times with the same result. Reading or not reading the config data did not make a difference.
Since the VCM was new to me, I decided to use my IDS/SDD 1.3.1 laptop with the VCM (I usually use the Mongoose cable). IDS 1.3.1 prompted me to upgrade the firmware on the VCM which was successful. I was able to connect to the car and navigate around without any issues whatsoever. So at that point I figured that the VCM unit was OK and my IDS 118.5 had some sort of an issue that made it crash. I hooked up the VCM to my IDS 118.5 laptop but IDS does not recognize that there is a cable plugged in the USB port.
I am suspecting that the VCM firmware is tightly coupled with the version of the IDS being used. Is there a way to force a downgrade of the VCM firmware to match the IDS version that is being used?
