Default Vibration Throughout Car

New to Jaguars and this forum. I bought a 2004 XJ8 with 126000 miles. The whole car vibrates between aprox 50mph - 70mph. After researching on here it seems that its the driveshaft. I have ordered a used one.

I'm looking for any info regards diy replacement of this driveshaft. I usually do all my own maintaince so I don't see any problems however any help or advice is much appreciated.

On a side note is the clock illuminated and if so how do I remove it to replace the bulb?

Yep, the clock should be illuminated. I've never tried to remove it to instruct you on how to do so.

How certain are you that this is a drive shaft issue?

Where, and how much did you pay for the replacement?

I am not 100% sure the vibration is being caused by the Drive Shaft. However after spending hrs researching on the internet. Seems like a lot of people have reported the exact same fault with same car and all being rectified by replacing driveshaft.

I have rotated wheels to eliminate wheels/tires. The vibration seems to be coming from underneath car as opposed from front of car.

I ordered a used driveshaft from ebay. It came off same car with 80k miles for $100. I figured it wasn't a lot of money to eliminate it!!!.

I was wondering how big a job this would be with car jacked up on jack stands. I'm pretty sure the exhaust will have to be removed!

I will keep you posted

I drove the car this AM. At the onset of the vibration at aprox 50mph I slowed to stop the vibration developing any more. I could feel the vibration coming through my right cheek on the seat coming from the driveshaft tunnel area. I couldn't feel the vibration through my left cheek on the seat.

Pretty sure its the driveshaft/driveshaft carrier bearing/rubber doughnuts or some combination. I will keep you posted however it will be aprox 1 month before I can free up some time to get it replaced!

I am sure one can buy the flexible coupling doughnuts at each end of the propshaft. These can break up and cause vibration. Whether the centre bearing can be replaced, I don't know, but the UJ should be replaceable as it is surely a standard size. However these parts seem to not be available for the X350, but I am fairly certain the S-type couplings fit.

OK, older thread, but it caught my eye because my clock is dark too. I went through something similar on my 98 LR Discovery, but it was not nearly as involved as getting at this clock and it might be even more difficult with the SV8s touch screen dash. For now I'll carry a flashlight but I bookmarked the instructions in case I get a wild hare and the guts to dig into my "new" dash.

BTW, do these cars need a radio code entered if the battery is disconnected?
