Default water pump replacement

I just received a call from my indy shop telling me they could not replace my water pump because too many things had to be taken off. I thought this was a relatively easy job, can anyone shed some light on this for me?

There are plenty of guys on your side of the pond who have done it.

I think you have to do it from underneath the engine.

I have never done it myself.

Clam

Gently suggest you find another repair shop

And, have that shop verify that it is actually a bad water pump before proceeding

At present, all you have, assumedly, is a coolant leak. Letting an incompetent shop get involved with it may quickly compound things

+1 on the above.

I do not think your MY would be a lot different from my 2005 XJR except you have no SC.

It is a relatively easy job done from the top front of the engine.

I have just been using this shop for general maintenance, oil changes, brakes and tires this is the first non-maintenance item I am trying to get done outside of the dealership. I can't afford to pay their rates any more. One thing I can say in the indy shops behalf is they were up front and said they couldn't do it. In my younger days I would do it myself but getting too old with fat fingers. Off to find another shop.

Water pump on the engine? Are they serious? Find someone else. Its a belt air intake tube and maybe a hose or 2 if you dont want to work around them. 3 pulley bolts and 5 water pump bolts. Its harder to change engine air filters on a ftype

Thanks Brutal, that's the way it looks to me too. Any idea on the labor hours I should expect from a shop to replace the pump?

Draining coolant procedure is the worst part, after car is back on the ground with plastic back on, things get moving along better.
Not a bad job

That’s exactly what it is easy job I just did mine but now I’ve got crank no start
It got hot. I shut it off relatively quickly found out my cross pipe was leaking. Let it cool down started it and moved it to where I could work on. It. Shut it off and now these are the codes I’m getting.

I've changed mine, and once the hoses are out of the way, it's not that bad a job. It was a lot easier than Dad's '88 Crown Vic, which I expected to be easy, as that car had HUGE space around the front of the engine, where the jag is crammed full of hoses between the engine and the radiator. But on the Crown Vic, every accessory bracket on the front of the engine is fastened with the same bolts that hold the water pump on! I had to remove the bolts for the AC compressor, the power steering pump, the alternator, and the air pump before the water pump would come off. The Jag was easy, but like I said, once the hoses were out of the way. Some of it is from under the car, and some of it is reachable from above.
