Default Weird Fuel Gauge Issue

2004 XJR
Gotta weird fuel guage issue. When I fill up, the gauge will go to full just fine. Then, mostly at night I've noticed, it will just drop all the way to empty, the gas light will come on, and the nav will bring up gas stations. Then it may come back up after driving for a while, or sometimes, it just stays down. Until I hit about 3/4 of a tank. Then it will read normally til I fill up again.

Not really that big a deal, I just hate **** that don't work right.

Any ideas?

Thanx for the info.

Wondering if because I'm not the original owner, I can get the TSB covered.

More of a nuisance than anything else.

Was gonna bring it in anyway, as soon as I can find a place in the N. Seattle area worth a damn. I think I may have the dreaded transaxle problems. Very erratic shifting between 30 and 50 mph. Along with some occasional hard, jerky shifts.

Could just be I'm over sensitive, due to all the issues I've read about on here. We'll see.

Thanx again for the info.

A TSB is NOT a RECALL.
If you are out of factory warranty then you will pay for repairs no matter what is wrong.

A RECALL is another matter. That is usually a SAFETY concern and the manufacturer is obligated to repair without charge to the customer.

Sounds like you need the transmission control software update, (aka reflash), to cure your shift problem. I can confirm it does work !

Thanx. I'm getting my truck back from the shop tomorrow. (Dodge Cummins Dually - new engine.. ouch) I'll see about finding a Jag shop in my area (N. Seattle), and give em a call.
