When my wife and I were young enough to still enjoy camping, our VDP sedan didn't have a trailer hitch, so we would pull in to the PRIMITIVE camping sites and pull our tent and sleeping bags out of the boot and set up like everybody else, campfire wood and all. We really got the looks from the lumberjack types.

 

Took my wife and my friend to dinner. Then on the way home demonstrated to my friend what Supercharger Whine was. WHEEEEEEEEEEEE. I don't think he'll forget that sound for a while.

 

Changed a broken HID dipped beam bulb to another 6000k bulb. It had shattered!

Did both while I was at it. The unbroken one even tho 6000k looked decidedly less bright so I wonder if they
deteriorate over time?

Only just got it in time for a 450 mile trip at night tomorrow.

 

Yes, they do dim over time.

 

Brought in for repair: XJ8, 2004. Looks like right side both wheels too high. Estimate only as stock air suspension appears difficult to maintain. Too bad. Trouble enough w BMW cycle.

 

Turns out it was the oil filler tube. As other posters mentioned, the tube is sealed with an o-ring and essentially screws into a plastic housing with a metal-tabbed backstop to hold it in position. Upon removing it, I noticed the o-ring was flattened a bit. Thankfully not an expensive part.

Then, last week, one of the supports on the rear sun shade snapped at the place where it connects to the top crossbar. If it's not one thing, it's another.

 

Sunday, went to an extended family lunch. Beggar me if another extended family member didn't turn up in a Series 2 I knew he had one, but I didn't even know he would be there. My wife kept complaining why I was more interested in the carpark than the lunch.
What did I do to my X358 that day? Washed it That Is All. (but then, so did he)

Personally I think the older car is better proportioned, though by all accounts the newer car is more reliable/better handling. We didn't get into too much technicals, although I swear I heard the word "Lucas" pass his lips.

 

The X350's, as well as the X358's look so much better without the sunroof.
Here in the states, the moon or sun roof is standard, or so i was told.

 

I didn't notice the sunroof delete on Chris's car until I read Wingrider's comment. I had no idea the 350 was built without the leaky hole in the ceiling. After stripping out most of the interior to get rid of the damp and the musty smell, and the headliner to access the rear drain tubes, I have to wonder why Jaguar didn't think New Zealanders would worthy of such a blessing. (Insert cursing and muttering emoji here)

 

Never liked the idea myself, of cutting a hole in the roof of an automobile.

Just asking for trouble if you ask me.

W T F seems no one asked for my opinion.

 

I was trying to will myself up (just future-wise) to like the X351. But then I heard about and researched the noisy and/or rusty sunroof problems on that car. Almost certain problems and almost certainly unfixable. WTF? Even saw one with the whole roof out when I took mine in for service; had to check I wasn't in a wrecker's yard.
So X351 is out as a future upgrade path for me. Nope. My X358 is Not For Sale.

 

Never liked the X351 anyway.

 

I suspect, blown the valley pipes on the XJ. I truly don't fancy doing them, but it will give me the opportunity to do a little more fettling while it's apart.

 

Found that 6 months after changing rear output shaft seal, its leaking again. Looks like used new condition axle is going in with new seal. The old one didn't seem grooved, but I must have been wrong. Or the bearing is bad and that will be a whole different story.

 

Finally got around to changing the whining rear blower motor after 2 years of having the replacement. I haven't used the rear hvac as it was too embarrassing in front of others I forgot how quick and easy it was to remove the center console. Peace and quiet once again.

 

Finally received my micro HDMI converter cable so was able to link my new Android tablet with Sygic and Waze to my head unit.

Received my "new" rear view mirror, that I bought on Ebay, with the built in compass.

Took a while to install as I have a DVR camera mounted immediately under the base of the mirror mount which got in the way of installation.
Things I stick on the windows will often fall of however this dvr would not budge at all even using a razor!

Brute force detached the base mount but more finesse was required for installation as the very strong metal clips that hold the mirror stalk to the base
have to slide up from the bottom of the base to clip into place.

Next I will be installing a "new" overhead console with woodgrain trim to add to all the woodgrain I gained with the Vanden plas tray tables.

Then I think I am done or maybe next year window tinting.

 

Glad it all went well with the mirror, a nice addition that most people do not have. People sometimes ask what is that showing in your mirror to me and are surprised when I say it is a compass. How did your final setting up go while driving round in circles ? haha
