I found a leather restorer here in Dublin to do the work. He mainly concentrated on RV's and boats prior to the lockdown but has realised there is a good market in offering this service to car drivers.
He charged me 130.00 Euros (150.00 bucks) to come to my home and do the work..... much cheaper and less hassle then sending the whole wheel off to be restored in the UK or elsewhere.
I found out JBWeld will not work on a pressurized coolant system. So I purchased a new expansion tank ($42) and installed it this morning. I want to thank all the support and posts on this site, it made the exchange easier. Especially the notes on tricky parts like the clip on the bottom hose of the tank. Drilling a hole in the old dead tank for the siphon hose should have been common sense. (Sorry for the huge photos) I am thinking of making an epoxy dam in the channel to lock the hose in place so the stem should not break again - Thoughts? I think I can do it so it looks neat and can easily be broken out if need be.

I recently added a Mina Gallery air intake and purchased a rearview mirror with compass from ebay. I like the compass mirror as its wider and seems to weigh less, but better adjustment feel. Overall, a great swap.
I also did the air filter hosing flap removal. Seems to give more engine whining... in a good way.
I finished up my Vee leak chase project tonight. Forgot the EGR valve connector and it threw a MIL. I'll see if it goes away in a couple of driving cycles.
Everything in the cooling loop is renewed except the cabin heat pump with 72k miles on it - touch wood it does not give out but it is not difficult to change. All told about $850 in genuine parts, new coolant and an oil / filter change.
Battery reconnected after a charge, radio and phone maintained their settings even with the battery disconnected for 10+ days.
Now I need to get my Vehicle Configuration correct so all the CCM's display or not display. Green check marks on the modules that are supposed to function, no red X's, but several with yellow ? say the module is probably not installed, and the acronyms for the modules are not listed in the SDD manuals, so time to hunt them down once I sort out the actual configuration.
I took an SDD screenshot and will post it tomorrow in a new topic in X350 until I learn the ropes. This car CCM configurations were questionable when I bought it so now time to sort all those out if I can get the Vehicle Configuration correct.- first learn SDD inside and out. Note this will not load IDS on a 2005 VIN (version 138), just goes into SDD with the VIN entered, I'll need to sort that out or try version 131.
Put my Vanden Plas into winter storage----oil and filter changed, fueled up and fuel stabilized, washed, polished, tires up to max pressure and battery on the Cetek .
Now to work on my XF.
Refreshed the headlamps with some xenon effect bulbs along with led sidelights.
Very happy with the results.
Looks great. Others have said the headlamp swap is a tedious job resulting in lacerated hands. What was your experience? Did you work off of a step-by-step written guide?
Is the storage area heated? It gets colder further north, than it does here.
Yes the temperature is typically between 10C and 15C (or 50F to 60F). I cover it with old bed sheets!!! I usually run a dehumidifier but it does not do much work when the temperature outside is low, 20F to 0F or lower.
