Default Windscreen wiper sensor fault 2007 XJ

Hello everyone

I’m new to this forum and I am also trying to bump up my posts so I can hit the target number of 10 posts in order to go live with my account.

I have a 2007 Jaguar XJ 2.7D over here in the UK.

I’m slowly but surely trying to work my way through some of the faults on car in order to get her back to good as new condition.

I have several faults I’m tackling but this one is related to my windscreen wipers which maybe someone can help me with.

The wipers work as intended on all positions except auto sense position. I’m not sure if it is the wiper stalk on the steering column at fault or if it is the rain sensor on the windscreen. Maybe it is something completely different ??

Has anyone else come across this same problem and had luck with a solution please?

many thanks
Colin

Thee have been problems with other stalks not just wiper stalks and apparently

the wiring is really crammed into the cassettes.

Easy to remove and maybe test on the bench.

If not try fitting an used one?

Had a similar problem on mine when I got it.
Likely nothing wrong with any part and just the seal between the sensor and windscreen degraded.
You need to remove the mirror, which will pull off downwards, toward the windscreen bottom.
Take out the sensor, clean that and the glass and use one of the clear gel kits on eBay.
Sorted it for me.

Thanks for the feedback Matt

I have read someone else did the same thing which resolved the issue for them too.

I have a feeling you may be right with this, so will order the kit and see how I get on.

thanks again for your suggestion and feedback, I appreciate your time.

rgds Colin
