So I let my XJ sit too long and the battery died. The trunk UNlocked just fine with the key, but will not re-lock. I can't turn the key to the left even a little bit. Is my lock damaged or am I missing something?

Did you use the flip key or an aftermarket key without the remote? I did away with my flip key and went to a dealer supplied black headed master, but had to file a bit off the key to get it to work smoothly in the trunk cylinder. Brandon

 

I had the same problem when I went overseas, I used the key to unlock and just pushed down on the trunk to lock. I didn't need to use the key to lock it.
