X358 Nav Screen Engineering Mode
If you go in engineering mode in 2008+ X358 you will see in the top left corner the screen displays "X358". If you go to system options where you select the options coded to the car (CDC, VEMS, etc.), the bottom right has three options for X400, X350 and X202. Interestingly for the X358 none of these three models are selected, and instead in the top left of the main screen just displays X358.
My audio unit was returning a configuration error so I coded Audio Unit "Model Series" in SDD as "XJ" instead of "Unknown" how it was from the factory. Now the top left of the engineering mode displays "X350" instead of "X358", and if I return to "Unknown" in SDD it reverts to the X400 model series configuration.
Anyone know if there are any differences now that it is coded as X350 instead of X358? And anyone know if it's possible to revert it to factory configuration where it displays X358?

I can't answer your question, but certainly have some. I can find no information here or on the web about an 'engineering mode". How do you get there and what is it for? Can you point me to some info? I'm asking because I read in a post or two, something about de-selecting ACC and the car goes to standard cruise control mode. That would be nice if the radar module up front goes out. Works fine on my XJR, but the X358 is a little wonky.
Thanks in advance.

As you have both x350 and x358, you could compare them. I remember that it is possible to do an instrument panel 'self test' mode where all the warning lights come on and the needles cycle, to test them. I also remember finding out that this was deleted for the x358, as it didn't work on my car. Perhaps this is the 'engineering mode that OP mentions.
Attached is the 'additional diagnostics' TSB that seems to have been present on S-Type, X-Type and X350.
